NOOB needs help asap please

I just bought the new zelda SS the legit copy and it gives me a black screen when trying to play it on my out of date soft modded wii.
I am running the 3.2u still from a long time ago and I think the ios is 249 rev 14 or something atleast thats what it said in neo gamma

so my question is what can I do to avoid a brick to update this to allow play of the new zelda legit copy? do I need to fully update? if so how and where is a guide.

will I jsut need the ios or cios updated? any help would be great you can PM me if needed.

Post 9434 here.

Any help...please?

No wiimote signal acception from the unit. No GC controller input recognized.

I really need to know how to get the wiimotes working with my wii again...or if not, how to induce a factory reset hardware-wise or externally...

Thanks for the info mate. I see in the modmii options I can go for firmware 4.1, 4.2 or 4.3 with 4.1 being the one recommended.

Is there any value in going for the later firmwares or should I just quick to the recommendation?

Thanks again

Shuggie
4.1 is the best one in my opinion (I'm still on it :P) The newer firmwares just block some homebrew so no reason to go higher.

Your kids put a dvd+r or -r that fried the disc drive. your only options a using a usbloader
thank you so much. I will now start to fab task of working out what a usbloader actuallyis. I have heard of it, but thats all.
That may not be the problem though. Putting a burnt disc in to the drive should not wreck it after only one use. Do you run burnt games on it all the time, or do you use originals? Did you make sure the region settings in NeoGamma were correct for your region of TV, and lastly, did you make sure the A/V cable was not loose (on the wii, or the TV end).

Still, Disc loading is a thing of the past. Just use ModMii to get you set up with USB loading.

Hi guys,
came over to gba temp looking for info on how to hack a wii,new this was the place to be because you guys taught me all i know about nds hacking,r4,homebrew,ysmenu etc etc.

So here i am at noob level again and with a few noob questions.

Going to buy a wii prob second hand so what i need to know is... is there a best firmware?

Lower than 4.2 or best to be on the latest available?

I understand that newer wii's are unable to play disc backups,i believe this is down to a new chipset though rather than firmware.

Playing discs will be my preferred method unless someone knows a good reason to go for the usb loader option.

So whats the best firmware to be on? and should i never update.

Finally when im ready to do the soft mod can anyone point me to a guide on the best method , i see there's a sticky on here with a guide is this the one to follow if my firmware is at 4.3?

Thanks in advance folks.

Firmware doesn't matter, any firmware avaliable can be hacked without the need of anything more than an SD card and a computer. To mod it use ModMii (link in my sig), it is nearly impossible to do something wrong if you are using it.

As for USB loading, just try to find a good reason not to use it. It is faster, easier, doesn't wear out your disc drive, and never causes problems with disc needing updates. There is no reason why I would ever go back to disc loading after using it.

Its Ok to not have BootMii load when the Wii turns on right? Never had to boot bootmii before, am just used to booting it normally

BootMii/boot2 is what is installed on your Wii's memory to make BootMii run. If it doesn't see a bootmii folder on your SD card, it will just boot the system menu. So yes, you could just get rid of that folder, or rename it to something else.

the nand.bin and keys.bin are in the root of your sd card. if you want you can leave the bootmii folder in your sd and zip the armboot file in a archive but it will be safer in your computer

Ok cool..so just to repeat, its Ok for me to keep the bootmii folder on my SD card, but if I dont want it to boot up on my Wii when it turns on I can rename it to something else, just want to be sure, I dont want any bricking like that other person told me might happen if I did something

just go in the bootmii folder and you should see the armboot file compress it in a rar file and if you want call it. EXTRACT WHEN YOUR WIIS BRICKED (lol) and done

LOL..I already went and changed the folder from "bootmii" to "BCE" and now the Wii boots normally..so everything looks good!!
Now all that is left to do is when I Get my 1tb external drive..do I let the Wii(When I open up USB loader) format the drive or do I format it on my PC using the FAT 32 GUI Formatter that ModMii came with
