How does sony know, if a copy has been used before to redeem a discounted digital copy? Does each copy of a psp game have an unique code programmed into the disc?...If so it would seem sony had this planned out years ago in the event UMDs failed.

So paying again for games you already own, and you need to keep your old PSP as well. Nice "solution" Sony. :\

You are a moron.
Any of the Xbox originals you could download were all backwards compatible so your original copy would play if you stuck them in your 360 you didn't have to pay for them again. The downloadable versions were for people who never owned them. Same goes for the PS1 classics, every ps3 will play ps1 games.
As for the Wii virtual console, it offers people retro games from almost every major 2D console of the 90s and late 80s with out all the problems that come with your old consoles such as blowing in cartridges, trying to make them work on your new TV, and not being able to save because the sram battery needs to be replaced. Also the Wii is backwards compatible with gamecube games.
As for a solution for the Vita, It should just give you a free download for the game, Not a damn discount

Ican't belive... well actually I can belive you people are bitching about this. Look if you don't want to pay to play your PSP games on Vita then don't. At least Sony is trying to do something for the people who do. Me personally looking at the list of compatible games there is nothing in there that I want to transfere but if they add something I would I'm not going to go and complain about a few bucks so I can. Get over it.

I know that Guild. Thats why I said if they would add something that I want to transfer I said I would pay the few bucks to do it.![]()

I wonder if it will work with imported games? For example, I have several US games and several EU games for my US PSP which I use with the EU PSN Store. Will I only be able to get discounted copies of the EU games? Not that I intend on getting a Vita, but it might be handy to have games on my MS for my PSP instead of UMDs...

Any game with camera control. But really, were there any PSP games that justify backwards compatibility?
