Theorical (!) way of transferring modded save files from a hacked Switch 1 to a vanilla Switch 2

Disclaimer: Use this at your own risk! I'm not responsible if this gets you banned or if the laws in your country get you and your moms in jail. While I'm pretty sure these steps are fine, I can't guarantee it!

To those of you who are aware of what's technically doable, this guide probably goes without saying but I thought I'd mention it here anyway. I just thought of a way of transferring my savegame of Tears of the Kingdom that has the glitched non-breakable master sword to the Switch 2. But this should also work with any downloaded 100 % save or cheated PKMN shiny savegames and what not.

It's basically pretty simple. I'll break it down in short points:
  1. Take a modded Switch 1 where you are able to boot Atmosphère.
  2. Boot into a stock (aka non-CFW) clean sysNAND. By "clean" I mean you didn't use any LayeredFS mods or installed stuff with homebrew installers. In short, everything that gets you banned.
  3. Launch the games you want to transfer the saves for at least once. Needless to say the have to be legitimately (either a physical cart or a legally obtained eShop game).
  4. Keep the Switch offline (enable airplane mode or delete the WiFi connection) and reboot into the sysNAND but this time with Atmosphère.
  5. Use Checkpoint to inject your modded saves.
  6. Reboot to stock (aka not using Atmosphère).
  7. Now you're good to go. Just use the official system transfer feature to transfer everything to a vanilla Switch 2. You could even restore a NAND backup on your Switch 1 afterwards if you wanna circumvent the forced factory reset that comes with this process.
A closure note:
Obviously I can't test this guide yet. It should work from what I know about the Switch 1 and how Nintendo described the system transfer.
However I used this method in the past to transfer modded savegames from my modded emuNAND to my sysNAND. For example I did this with Diablo III and Mario Maker 2, both of which I then used online without getting banned to this day.

By the way, you could theoretically skip a few steps from above and just use Atmosphère right away without booting back and forth. Those steps are just "the safest way" of doing it and honestly I'd recommend sticking to them.

Do you have the possibility to create a video-guide?

You know, I bought Pokémon Scarlet recently and I don't want to do any wrong step.

Basically, from emuNAND of my modded switch, I need to transfer the save file (of a backup version of Pokémon Scarlet) to the original partition or directly to Switch 2.
The save wasn't modded, it is genuine but coming from a backup version of the game. Now I just purchased the physical version and also planning to buy the DLC as I liked it.

Please let me know, also in PM.

I'm not really an expert and too afraid to do something wrong :)

Thanks in advance!

P. s. guys the invitation is opened to all of you.
If you are able to create and post a video guide which explain how to take the save file from the emuNAND of switch 1 with hekate and inject it to the sysNAND (in a way to could backup it on Nintendo servers or simply transfer it to the switch 2) I would be glad
I did do a written guide in this thread : https://gbatemp.net/threads/theoric...-1-to-a-vanilla-switch-2.670545/post-10673286

Unfortunately, I cannot make a video guide. I even gave away my Switch 1 to a friend so its physically not possible anymore. It is pretty straight forward as long as you have a modded Switch with an OFW that is unbanned. Built-in features of Atmosphere and JKSV take care of everything.

Hi there! Newbie to this but I wanted to try it out. I have a patched switch I haven’t used the sysNAND ever since because they said it is not safe. I just followed a guide before to jb it. So I think it is clean. Is my assumption correct or need to double check it? I only play in emuNAND using tinfoil. I’m still in 19.0.1 firmware. I tried to access the sysNAND out of curiousity then I got Unknown pkg1 version. HOS version not supported!

My questions are
1. Is it safe to assume sysNAND is clean?
2. Need to update to latest firmware + atmosphere + hekate for sysNAND to work?
3. I have games in my emuNAND this will not get detected right even if its the same micro sd? I don’t want to ban my console.
4. I added a block for nintendo server and spoof my console serial in emuNAND, if I remember correctly. Will this take effect in sysNAND?

TIA for answering my questions :)

Do you own all the games that you want to transfer saves for legally (as in eshop or on cartridge)? Otherwise you don't even need to think about doing this.

Yes, I have pokemon games in cart and also I want to transfer them on my switch 2. Sorry, I forgot to add this info.

It worked for me with Zelda TOKT. I think that I took exctactly those steps, I forgot to set to go offline when I booted to OFW with atmosphere to inject my modded saves but I instntly turned it off, booted normaly, turned airplane mode on, went back to atmosphere, injected the saves with a homebrew app, then I rebooted normally again. The funny thing is that I ended up by tranfering it to switch 2 with cloud saving after playing once in the switch 1. No Ban until now. It was july 2025 when I did this...

I did more or less the same with multiple games (including both Zeldas) and I'm fine too.

just did this method and im fine

1 booted unbaned original firmware launched original game on switch 1 with cartrige and created a save file, then deleted internet settings, entered airplane mode and turned off my router just to be 100% safe
2 booted on emunand and backed up my save
3 booted on cfw with sysnand
4 launched jksv in applet mode (through the album) restored my save and when completed I immediately returned to home and turned off the system
5 booted into original firmware turned off airplane mode restored internet connection and immediately created a cloud save backup
6 went to switch 2 and downloaded my save{

my switch 1 is fine so far and no bans,
my switch 2 has my save with unbreakable master sword (and a few other weapons) and 400 fans and other construction items

since my save isn't too aggressively modded I think I'll be fine

and if my switch 1 gets banned I still have the switch 2

Any updates on this, is your switch 2 still unbanned?

I've just ordered a switch 2 and hope to be able to transfer save files from Botw and Totk that has 999 items, arrows etc, and a shitload of rupees, and I hope the switch 2 won't get banned :)

I highly doubt they care to look into your save. In the end, amounts of rupees, arrows and what not are just values in a (decoded) text file within the save. It's not like they implemented a "modded" flag into the games like they did with Link's Awakening back then when you stole something in the shop lol.

I too have the unbreakable Master Sword in TotK and I've not been banned yet.

Ah nice, do you have any other modified weapons?
Did you use the game save editor or how did you modify your master sword?

Through the glitch. Didn't use any save editor on it.
But again, the Zelda games have been datamined through hell and there's multiple save editors. I'm pretty sure you're safe.
