Party like it's 2011 as Skyrim releases on the Nintendo Switch 2

GBAtemp users face a dilemma more than most when it comes to the Switch 2. To update or not to update? Many wait patiently for homebrew, others less patiently, and some are just waiting for a game that's worth updating for. In the six months since the system launched, we've seen Nintendo publish the likes of Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, and Kirby Air Riders exclusively to their new console. For some this wasn't enough. Some were still waiting for something legendary, something special. Something wheeled out for every half-year anniversary. Some were waiting for Skyrim.

It is time to rejoice, and for many time to update your systems, as little-known game development studio Bethesda have today released the latest version of 2011's Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for Nintendo's hyrbrid wonderkid. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition is now available via digital download for the Switch 2, along with a free upgrade path for those who already own the Anniversary Edition of the original Switch release. This new version promises enhanced resolution with DLSS anti-aliasing, better loading times and performance, and mouse controls, alongside the motion controls and Amiibo support of the original Switch release. It should be noted that the game still runs at 30fps however.

Though there is an upgrade path, it's not quite as simple as Nintendo's "Switch 2 Edition" titles, with users required to jump through a few hoops to avoid shelling out for the game a second (or seventh for some) time. Owners of the digital version should see a 100% discount on the new release assuming they own the Anniversary Edition upgrade. Physical cartridge owners however will first need to remove their Anniversary Edition DLC before launching the game and pressing Y on the main menu to access the eShop. If you own the upgrade (but again, do not have it installed), you should be able to download the Switch 2 version for that same 100% off. Once you've added this to your account, you actually don't need your cartridge anymore, so feel free to pass it onto a friend for the holidays!

Will this finally be the time you beat Skyrim, instead of just wandering around doing side content for tens of hours? Let us know!

"Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced" will be next.

Get ready for always online and paywalls Ubi style, sigh.

AC4 is one of my favorites so that kinda hurts they're remaking it than just work on a sequel (it'd probably not be as good, but at least it'd be separate from the original).

Youre technically correct, im sorry, let me rephrase:

Not MUCH RELEVANT SWITCH 2 exclusive games FOR switch 2 that highlight the system that you cant play anywhere else, and are system sellers, a reason to buy the system that arent remasters, remakes, 3rd partie non exclusives, ports and such.

Also id like for you to list me those 246 games so we can talk about them and count them.
I don't know the 246 games, it just says on a random site (cant remb which one) that 246 games are in the works for it.
But I agree with you, even Switch1 was mostly a Port & Indie powerhouse. I'm sure SW2 will be more of the same.

@Metoroid0 I hear ya, used to be big fan also, own/ owned Nes, Snes, N64, GBC, 3DS, Switch1, but think I'm gonna pass on the SW2. Too many other handhelds coming out now that are much better, and yea between my decent PC and Series X, it's already all I need. Only time I even play SW1 anymore is when I'm traveling, and that's not much. I play my 3DSXL more than the SW1 tbh. Good chatting, take care.

Is this game really that good?
It **was**, at the time.

The big draw for a lot of people was the ability to mod the game, to either fix bugs/issues Bethesda was too lazy to fix, or to fix broken game mechanics (or go all in with a broken mechanic and have fun with it).

Flash forward 14 years, other games have pushed the boundaries with immersion, gameplay, etc.

Realize also, you can't use any mods with the Switch version.

Add it all up, and this release rates a giant "WTF?". Of course, Microsoft and Bethesda are counting on people buying it anyway, and they will. Shrug...

I still remember when Skyrim was cool, people were pretty hyped here, funny to see how time flies and nobody cares about that game anymore... Don't get me wrong, it's old enough to be considered retro, and I'm not sure there's someone who still hasn't got it who would buy it now, on Switch 2, but it makes me feel a bit sad seeing people basically saying that it's a crappy game... Oh well, I'm just getting old I guess :D

Have you tried mouse mode on Cyberpunk? Just curious, I want to check it out too, but haven't had time.

Like all Nintendo controller things, I'm expecting 3rd party implementation to suck, but I'm hoping that CD Projekt Red will have tried harder than most (and maybe even succeeded?).
I played Cyberpunk on PC so there was no need for me to play it on the Switch 2. The only thing I played with the mouse mode was Metroid Prime 4.
I kinda wish more games that support it would also just support an actual USB mouse too. I know Nobunaga's Ambition does, and it can just be a lot more comfortable for longer sessions. I fully support what Nintendo were going for though. Joystick for movement plus mouse for camera seems the ideal in my mind.
Also with keyboard support would be nice. I don't think using a mouse with an analogue left stick joycon to move would be very comfortable

Mouse controls? It would have been stupid not to include them.

30 FPS? I'd wager they messed with lord Papyrus a little too far and introduced another timer-related bug.

Skyrim never changes!

I wonder how many people would really want another Elder Scrolls game if it was guaranteed to be as bad as Starfield.
Starfield is actually a pretty good game in my opinion, so I'm just hoping the next Elder Scrolls game is at least as good
