Following the recent leaked set footage from the upcoming The Legend of Zelda movie, Nintendo has unveiled the first official look at Link and Zelda via the X platform.

The movie has begun principal photography in New Zealand and is scheduled for a 7th May 2027 release date. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, known for The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) is set to play Link, while Bo Bragason (The Radleys, 2024) has been cast as Princess Zelda.

Recent leaked footage which we won't share here showed a glimpse of Bo Bragason (Zelda) in a forest location talking to another character which fans have speculated may be Impa alongside several horses and knights. Zelda is wearing a royal blue outfit reminiscent of her outfit in Breath of the Wild while Link can be seen wearing his traditional green tunic.

Miyamoto took to X/Twitter to share the official first look, saying:

Miyamoto via X said:
This is Miyamoto. We have commenced principal photography on the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda amidst magnificent natural landscapes, alongside Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link. Filming is progressing smoothly, so we would be grateful if you could kindly bear with us. The theatrical release is scheduled for 7th May 2027. Please wait a little longer.

It is going to be a movie made for children.

If you watch it with this in mind - then watch it with your younger cousins, watch it with your nephews or nieces, watch it with your children if you have any, and try to enjoy the movie with them, as if you were a child.

That's how I see it. That's how I went to see the Mario movie and how I managed to get through it.

Temper your expectations, tempers!

Jack Black as Ganon. Do it Nintendo! B-)
Isn't he already Bowser? Give another actor a chance to play a Nintendo character. No wonder a few Hollywood actors dominate too many roles.

They look like highschool kids...
Young adults more or less are suitable, any older and it'd be a bit strange as Link and Zelda never aged.

People are happy to be negative about anything until the world ends.
Best to ignore people's smart ass negative opinions on this movie and hope to enjoy it for yourself.

Don't live in darkness the rest of your life.
I've been there and still here struggling to get out.

I learned something from my time here. A lot of the regulars are absolutely fucking miserable and never happy with anything.
More like 75% of users here don't care either way, and the remaining 25% argue about stuff that doesn't even really matter. The 25% are the loud minority, to be honest.

If there are any shrines in this movie I expect Link to clip through the entrance with that shield jump glitch.

Though like any videogame movie my expectations are low, it's entertainment and it doesn't have to be canon or whatever, it'll just (hopefully) be a fun time!

Idk how I feel about these two . The movie better be amazing or people will be disappointed hugely !

"it's him doing all the dungeon exploring and monster slaying"

In spirit tracks they are monster slaying together
I suppose - though in any dungeon that's NOT the Tower of Spirits, Zelda can't fight alongside him due to not having a Phantom to possess, meaning it's only Link doing the monster-slaying.

They do explore all the dungeons together, but not fight together (again, aside from the Tower). From what I recall, all Zelda can do in most dungeons is give advice - which can be useful at times, don't get me wrong, and is exactly what Zelda is known for in several other games (OoT, TP, ALBW, etc.); being useful without needing to participate in combat.

So if Bo here is more of an advisor and supporter towards Link, and not a direct combat partner, that would still be a faithful rendition of her character.

To be fair you have to go to that tower after every dungeon, so it ends up being half the game

But anyhow, I would like to see Sheik or Phantom Zelda in the movie (although that won't happen)

Not that I care for this movie, but I prefer live action over cartoons/anime. I like escapism too, but I prefer old world medieval for serious content to cartoons, unless its something like early (seasons 1-5) Spongebob for when I want to laugh.

Also them filming this in NZ is copying the LoTR movies.
