(Reupload from the Switch 2 section of the forum)
So, today I went to Milan since a couple months ago I managed to get the tickets for the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience. Here's everything you need to know about the new console.
The entrance
As soon as we arrived there was a HUGE screen showcasing the Switch 2 Direct in a loop. The whole place was themed and were lots of places to take photos and stuff. After I showed the tickets, they let us put our stuff into a free wardrobe so I only took with me my 3DS XL (yes I took it there), my phone to livestream, and the phone holder. After I checked in my Nintendo QR Code for 100 free platinum points and went trough the security check, we were in front of multiple doors. We were meters away from the consoles. All of the staff was very young and they were clearly having fun too. At a certain point, like 3 minutes before the beginning, they started screaming from inside "Mario Kart!" and we replied "World!". Yea, that was very funny.
Then we start a countdown and suddently BOOM, doors open. Everyone rushes to the biggest AND nearest stand, that being Mario Kart World.
In all of the event every console dock was inside a plastic box labeled "Nintendo Switch 2 PlayBox" having multiple USB ports for accessories and a HDMI output. This PlayBox was attached to the dock with an USB cable. Every console was paired with a (I think) 32" Samsung TV, 4K HDR, 120hz. The graphics was INSANE.
Before I begin to talk about everything else...
Quick self promo time!
I streamed some of the games on my social medias, thus being Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok. All of the videos are available there and I will post more stuff and clips later
You can find me there as "2playeracaso".
Now, let's talk about the console itself, and it's games.
Nintendo Switch 2:
The console itself is very comfortable to hold even though it is a little bit heavy. The Joy-Con 2 magnets do not detach at all from the console unless you click the button on the back, then they detach very easily. For reattaching them you just need to put them close and done.
In tabletop mode, the stand goes REALLY down unlike the OG Switch but it still does its job great.
In TV mode... well, it really depends on your TV, but on the ones present at the event there was no input lag.
The sound output is AMAZING and it is really good. Same for the video: 1080p 120FPS (in some games) else 60FPS. It's not an OLED, but it's still insanely good: same in TV mode.
Overall it is really high quality.
Mouse mode is really good! It's really precise and feels really natural holding the buttons too.
One weird thing that I noticed was how I saw absolutely NO SCREWS. Like, zero.
Not even one. That's weird... but anyways, if you have anymore questions feel free to leave them in the comments.
Mario Kart World:
Hands down the best Mario Kart they have ever made. Every single possible character you can think of is there ready to play, with different outfits too. Reminds me of something else...
Anyways, there are TONS of new modifiers. There are like these food bags, that when picked up gives you a random food item (i.e. Pizza) which then gives you different abilities like boost, outfit change, character change etc. It reminded me of the Super Mario Bros. Wonder's flowers ngl.
There is not a single path to follow, unlike in other games. You can go kinda everywhere and you still progress in the race.
In Survival mode, 12 players were in LAN mode to play together along with 12 CPUs. How it works is that the game gives you some checkpoints and an objective for each checkpoint, for example be in the top 5, 10, 20 etc. If you do not follow that objective, YOU ARE OUT. Fun to play, my screen was also casted on another massive one but I was eliminated at the second lap LOL
Really cool, sadly we could only do one race in the demo. 11/10.
Nintendo Switch 2 - Welcome Tour:
They managed to fit a tutorial in a game, and make it look and feel good too. The minigames are fun, but maybe too mini... I'm also sad about the fact that it's not included in the console. Reminded me of the PS Vita's Welcome Park. 8.5/10.
DragXDrive:
When I saw this game in the Direct I was like "Dude, the heck is this? Nah this is gonna be a failure"
Well guess what? I could have never been that wrong in my entire life.
DragXDrive uses mouse controls for moving. They are kinda hard at first, but once you get the hand it is really fun to play. On the first match I quickly went trough the tutorial and CARRIED MY ENTIRE SQUAD! No like seriously, we won 20-3 or smth like that.
Really really fun, though you need a lot of space (like on a desk) to play since sometimes you gotta do some weird movements if you want to win. 9.5/10.
Donkey Kong Bananza:
Cool, but incredibly repetitive. The order is: dig in the caves, find gold, find currencies, find fossiles, find bananas, eventually find an enemy (Yes, there are like no enemies), do an incredibly easy 3-hit boss, fall into a hole and world done.
Mmh, not my stile, not really a grinder. 5.5/10.
Super Mario Party Jamboree - Bowser's Game Show and Jamboree TV:
The first DLC I tried was Jamboree TV. We tried 4 different minigames and my squad won 3! All of them use the new mouse functionality and honestly are really good. My favourite one was a minigame where the one who sprayed most Bob-Ombs with their colour won.
Bowser's Game Show is really... weird. It's for 4 players and you need the Camera. Your body gets put in the Mario tubes and then you participate in 3 minigames hosted by Bowser, and in the last one you have to scream and jump as much as you can... yea, it was kinda annoying after some time.
Cool, but... heh. I don't really know. 6.5/10.
Metroid Prime 4 - Beyond:
I did not have much time to play this since my general time was running out. The mouse controls are easy to use but the game is TOO HARD for being a demo. Considering I never played any Metroid game the bosses had too much life and were too long to beat. Great graphics, great gameplay/moves, but definetly too long. 7/10.
Nintendo GameCube Classics:
I only played F-Zero against my dad and absolutely destroyed him. Nothing to say honestly, the original games at a better quality. No OG Animal Crossing/Super Maio Sunshine yet though, so 8/10.
CyberPunk 2077/Yakuza 0:
I could not try those games. You had to be 18 to play them.
Kirby Star Allies/Zelda TOTK/Zelda BOTW/Hogwarts Legacy:
Haven't played that too since I don't really like those games, not gonna lie :/
Aaand that's it for the games. Here are some FUN FACTS from the event:
- I wore a t-shirt with an image of the Wii's HB Channel. Staff said nothing about that shirt, but 2 people recognized it (it was HILARIOUS).
- I got 8 STREETPASSES! Never got one before since when I got the 3DS I was still 4. SO HYPED! If you StreetPassed me (my user was either lenost or LNLenost), dm me on Discord!
- As I said before, all of the staff was very young and also Nintendo fans. They weren't there trained on the new games only, but had a nice knowledge of especially retro games.
- Every match was LAN. In DragXDrive specifically, it was a 3v3 where a 7th console started the match and went then in Spectator Mode. At a certain point though, the console started glitching and eventually SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. Yea... they tried plugging in the TV 2 different PCs and that worked. Eventually the Switch 2 started working again (somehow). I do have a vid, DM me if you want it. And no, the devkit menu was not shown.
- Every console/contoller was attached to a cable that was like 5cm wide, it made everything really heavy.
- In the screens with the loooping Direct, there was no freeze unlike in the livestream xD.
- I managed to take a photo under the Deltarune Chapters 3&4 trailer!! Not really related but Deltarune is peak
- Deltarune June 5th
- Did I mentioned I like Deltarune? And DragXDrive too, omg its peak gameplay
- When we were about to leave, they gave us 2 bags full of gadgets! There was: a poster, some postits, a bag, a pen, and a bottle. For photos, read below
Photos/Videos
You can find every livestream (I dediced to make many short streams) in this YouTube Playlist. (Every video is in Italian, sorry)
For the photos, they're attached to this post. I didn't upload many since most of the footage is video.
Devkit buttons combinations
Some button combos do different things. I found two of them used by the staff:
- Mario Kart World: after a race, every staff member held down A and X in the loading screen between the leaderboard and the next race to reset the demo;
- DragXDrive: while in the tutorial, holding left stick down and Y for some time skips the tutorial.
Conclusions
The event was INCREDIBLE! I did not expect it to be like this. I am really happy to have participated in this (and to have preordered the console too, eheh)
I had some doubts about the console (mainly for the prices) but when I tried it I completely changed my mind.
If you liked this post, make sure to drop a like! And if you have any questions, drop them below. I can't wait to answer you!
