Im trying to format a lacie 250gb drive to wbfs. ive checked the compatibility list and it seems like it whould work fine. Im using wbfs manager 3.0. no matter what i do it always say an error occured while attempting to format. I am running it under windows 7 rc1, and i have used it to format 2 other drives succesfully. I then attempted two other managers, neither of which worked. I am currently trying to format using the latest revision of usb loader gx.

can someone help me troubleshoot this drive?

unfortunately for me i don't own a tower. And to be honest, im a mac guy, running windows 7 via bootcap on a macbook pro laptop

Use partition master to format the drive to FAT. Then try WBFS manager to format the drive again to WBFS.

Are you sure the drive is FAT16 or FAT32 and not NTFS? You can check this through any partitioning tool including the disk manager included in windows 7. I'm not sure of the exact steps to access it as I don't have a windows 7 machine in front of me right now, however on other versions of windows you right click on my computer, click manage, and then click disk manager on the left pane of the screen that comes up.

okay i partitioned it and formtated it fat32, it didn't work initially (same error) but out of frustration i tried it two more times and the third time it worked.. weird

anyway thanks

Thank you for that, ronatola.
Unfortunately this question is from 2009, so the issue is probably long-since solved.
But hopefully that suggestion will help someone else, now.

WBFS is last-season anyways, FAT32 and NTFS are pimp on the Wii.
i have been struggling to get my nephews drive to be accepted bt usbcfg usb loader gx works fine but there are some games that dont work on usbloader gx like prince of persia that do work on usbcfg my nephews hard drive is a 2tb western digital mypassport and no matter how i format it usbcfg detects it as invalid partition i would use wbfs manager but that program will not format the drive at all so i have to use wbfs backup manager instead ant help would be appreciated even though this thread is old thank you

but there are some games that dont work on usbloader gx like prince of persia
Assuming you're using the loaders default settings, the game should work with newer versions of USB Loader GX and the d2x cIOS.

I wouldn't recommend installing the test version of USB Loaders GX onto your nephew's Wii, since it'll eventually stop working unless you're there to update him to the final release version.

As for your USB drive, open up command prompt and enter this...
Code:
diskpart
list disk
select disk X (change X to the disk number for your USB drive)
clean
convert mbr
create partition primary
format fs=ntfs quick
assign
exit
Then use Wii Backup Manager to format it to FAT32.

i am using usbloader gx 3.1 rv1281 i can format just fine with wii back up manager but usbcfg does not like it no matter what i do right now i am going to try wiiflow for prince of persia if it works then problem solved because wiiflow and usbloader gx detect the drive as valid its only usbcfg that does not i have tried ntfs with wbfs folder, wbfs format, and nomatter what usbcfg does not see it as valid under partition in usbcfg it shows unk-eee as partition which is weird but if wiiflow works then bye bye usbcfg
