Homebrew Looking for a mGBA Wad for my wii

I can't find one unfortunately, and the ones I did find I was able to install onto my Wii, but when I launched they just black screened and booted me back to the Wii menu. Anyone have a wad?🤑🅱️😈😈🤦‍♂️❤️🌭❤️💀🐥🤦‍♂️😄😄😄😄

Forwarder channels will do that if there's nothing on your sd card or hdd for it to forward to

That makes sense, but I do have mGBA on my SD card and I can launch it through the homebrew channel with no issue.

You need to use the forwarder that's based on the latest version of mGBA, the same for the regular mGBA files, both need to be the same revision for it to work.

I'm looking for a forwarder that works with the latest version of this software. It looks like my forwarder that I had broke with the latest mGBA update (Running Snakes version). Every one I can find on this forum, google, etc. has the same issue. When I launch the channel with them I get a message saying "Not Supported". It's in the right directory, it just won't launch the channel. If it was in the wrong directory it would reboot.

Does anybody have a working forwarder for the latest version of mGBA?

But please post photos or screenshots of the error that you get.

I have been using 0.10.0 and just tested the latest developmental build and all is good. All 3 forwarders i have created are booting and performing correct.

There are 3 possible reasons for your issue...

1. SD:/mGBA/config.ini is corrupt. Delete this file and let the emulator create again when booting.

2. Make sure you are using the proper forwarder(s) for the console they were intended for (Wii/vWii).

3. mGBA is only supported using SD. Since version 0.6.1, USB support has been broken. Meaning, (apps/mGBA & root mGBA) must both be placed on SD. However, roms can be launched from both SD/USB.

Really, sd support only? That's a bummer.

But It launches from the HBC from my USB just fine.

And that doesn't seem correct from my experience. I misunderstood @RunningSnakes originally and thought he just meant that the forwader support was broken for USB, not that the whole application was broken.... because mGBA for me has ALWAYS been on my USB and has ALWAYS worked, every version, EVERY time. mGBA's latest version continues to runs fine from my USB Drive. As long as I launch it from the homebrew channel. My forwarder just doesn't work and I assume this is because the forwaders are just written to look for it in the SD menu. Is this correct?

I did miss a bunch of versions I'm sure-- I went a long time without touching my Wii and just began to upgrade and stuff recently. Maybe you guys haven't tried launching from USB recently?

Try building a new forwarder dol using modmii classic's advanced downloads page. U can then inject it into your wad using customize mii. If this doesn't work, try launching the forwarder dol itself (via hbc or other means) and see if the issue is with the dol or the channel. You could also test the current forwarder dol if u like by extracting it from your forwarder of choice.

If the forwarder dol works fine, then check if the wad is loading using IOS58, or try with a different base wad that supports ahbprot.

To simply these tests, install a forwarder that definitely has ahbprot and uses IOS58 (like modmii's spinning usb loader forwarder channel), then rename the mGBA app folder temporarily to usbloader_gx and see if MGBA loads.

I'm not really trying to fix anything here. I'm honestly just curious why so many people can't boot mGBA from USB but I can. And I don't want the developers to think there's a problem if there actually isn't...

I have the forwarder working fine launching the app from SD. So I'm not gonna drive myself crazy when I have it working, even if it's not exactly how I want it to be. More important things in life. :)

I appreciate you taking the time to respond though.

The issue you have, like the rest of us, mGBA stopped working through USB "Forwarder" channel as of version 0.6.1.

After 0.6.1, USB compatibility was also broken using WiiFlow Lite plugins. Meaning, user must use SD to boot mGBA through "Forwarder Channel" or as a plugin through "WiiFlow Lite".

To be clear, simply download mGBA 0.6.1 and it WILL boot through USB forwarder channel. Then try mGBA 0.6.2 and it will not.

This is not an issue with forwarder channels or your Wii softmod.

The only solution i can suggest is to use mGBA through straight boot channel, which can be done by changing out the forwarder .dol and replacing with the original boot.dol.

I use ModMii for all my forwarder channel dols & the base wad is up to speed.

If you have a preference of what forwarder channel you were using, i could easily make it a stationary channel for you.

Other than that, i believe the issue will never be resolved.

You can try using latest ModMii beta (i don't know if you are part of @XFlak's PM) and make a v14 forwarder DOL for mGBA Wii (instead of the v12) and test it to load the app from your USB on its latest version.

Using latest beta 6.6.4 ModMii. Here are results...

mGBA 0.10.0 (USB) v14.dol = Not Working
mGBA 0.10.0 (USB) v12.dol = Not Working

mGBA 0.6.1 (USB) v14.dol = Not Working
mGBA 0.6.1 (USB) v12.dol = WORKING

mGBA 0.10.0 (SD) v14.dol = Not Working
mGBA 0.10.0 (SD) v12.dol = WORKING

emGBA latest (USB) v14.dol = WORKING
emGBA latest (USB) v12.dol = WORKING


Using ModMii 6.6.3 results...

mGBA 0.10.0 (USB) = Not Working
mGBA 0.6.1 (USB) = WORKING
emGBA latest (USB) = WORKING


Basically after mGBA 0.6.1, USB compatibility is broken. As you can see emGBA passed all tests and 6.6.4 beta v14.dol struggles.

Here's one I made a very long time ago based on Pokémon.
Dirs are "sd:\apps\mgba\boot.dol" and "usb:\apps\mgba\boot.dol".
