yeah not from base, im using the font16_SJIS file from the rom and pixel editing each font to fit size 10. not sure if its going to work but im going to test it out once im done. i've looked into making NTFR fonts before, from what i gather it isn't that hard but it takes some effort. using a base file is easier.
 
D: you're sure you are doing everything correctly though??

What you need to do is change the size table to the 10x10, and make sure you edit the single byte english characters.

Well I dunno... I haven't done it myself before so ...

The font has a width table it doesn't recongnise when a character ends and starts on it's own.
 
wa wait. Does the Font file have a width table? if so, we don't need any height changes - they are perfect. We can just edit the spacing and the width, then just edit the single byte ascii supported chars to fit the right size.


I've just found the width table XP
 
you serious ==" if it has a width table whats the point in me doing it. i've got the tables down to 10, the fonts just need some realigning in terms of pixels and thats it. the fonts just need some form of editing in terms of placement.

Phew, fount a 10x10 font and it looks really sweet, now to insert it and see how it displays.
 
Wow there's a fan translation project for this? Awesome guys, keep up the good work! Ys is my favorite game series, I was pretty excited when I saw this thread going on. Thanks for you hard work

look, my problem is the script.

So noitora, I should call right now the "testing period" when we get familiarized with the structure, test stuff out, find solutions, and we need to do this ALL before the translation is done with the spread sheets.
That means we still got some time, but we need to figure out how to solve these problems (such as by getting your 10x10 font) before the translation actually starts.

The text in the script_comn is easy to mess around with, so let's say we don't need anything else for that file.

Let's try to look in the script file and see what I was doing wrong.. If we can figure it out, then translating will go by REALLY quickly.
And i've got a new way to divide work - you can do the script_comn while I can do the script files

And because I have ys eternal 1 for the PC with the translation patch, it might help in translating the script. (even though I do not want to copy word by word, I can use it as a "backup")
 
I would like to thank everyone that translates text from the spreadsheet and I'd like to say that the translation is going really nice.
I am currently trying to figure out the bin format used in this game so we can have an easier time translating, I am having a few problems with that as it's my first time doing it but I'll hopefully make it.
 
I FUCKIN LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!! Even though Ive played through it a dozen times (PC version), I cant wait until this project is done!
 
And I'm 100% sure that at least I am not dropping the project. Don't worry, we will get 100% of the game translated.
