@The Real Jdbye thanks man I'll take your aforementioned titles in consideration.
Octopath traveler, no matter how hard i try to like that game i just can't Lose motivation reallt quick. On top lf that it's so hard for me to see things in the game without having to squint my eyes at the screen.
Yea sure it can be played on the dock but i play my ganes on handhelds most of the time.
I hold the Switch pretty close to my face, since I'm nearsighted but I prefer taking my glasses off when I'm reading or playing handheld games, so that I don't have to hold it so far away from my face. I actually found it to be harder to see things in Zelda BotW, all of the UI elements are tiny on such a small screen. But I can live with it. Rather that than dumbed down inferior versions of games/franchises like we always get on dedicated handheld consoles.

I actually haven't touched Octopath in a long time. Kinda lost motivation as well. But I intend to resume playing it at some point, I just started playing other stuff instead and kinda forgot about it. Haven't beaten Bravely Second yet either so that's another JRPG I'll have to resume at some point. JRPGs are just such a huge time sink and I lose motivation in anything quickly if I'm not hooked, which is a rare occurrence for me. So I completely understand. I still like the game though, just not enough to get hooked.

I usually play handheld as well. It's just more convenient. But when I want to immerse myself fully, I use docked mode. It seems like most people prefer either one or the other and very few people actually regularly use both handheld and docked mode, but it's nice to have the option, especially in couch multiplayer games.

A more satirical take on your tactics style games. Encourages grinding and makes it fun with a level cap of 9999 and the ability to reset back to 1. Story is fun and I got about 85 hours in before the real world shouted at me and told me I had other things I needed to do lol

Alas i cannot play it then.
A video game with such a ridiculous grinding system that needs you to solely dedicate your free time to it isn't my cup of tea.
Much like you I've got other things that keep me occupied and that i need to be dealing with.
with that being said..i might give it a try during christmas break wherein I'll get plenty of time to kill.
By the by i shamelessly confess that I have to use cheats to get around this game. ;O;

You can play it quite easily and enjoy it without the grinding, it just sets itself up for it to allow for more content and replayability. It has a 'cheat shop' in-game to adjust the difficulty, which was nice because I accidentally grinded early on for a reason that escapes me lol, it meant the game was still a fun enough challenge.

ah i see then. I have to say it's kinda neat that grinding isn't a necessary for the story to progress onwards.
Might do my first blind playthrough just to enjoy the story and then get back to it on NG+ for it's gameplay elements.

It really is a brilliant game. I think my favourite thing about it is that you can ditch the isometric view and go for a standard grid. Just can't get to grips with isometry lol

Astral Chain is looking promising if you're into hack and slash games like Bayonetta. It's looking like a lot of good games are loaded for next year, though. But Luigi's Mansion 3 is coming out at the end of October and I think Panzer Dragoon the remake is releasing this winter. And that Mario & Sonic: Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 if you liked those previous titles. Just suggesting some games releasing soon since I haven't really been playing too much of the games out now.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
