With the release of current hacks, hacks which give total control of the hardware, seem essentially unpatchable without hardware revisions, and are trivial to launch, combined with there apparently being millions out in the wild, it seems we shall be getting a nice hacking scene going on before too long*.

*whether we will see a repeat of the farce that was the early 3ds custom firmware scene is up for debate, albeit in another thread.

Around the time the DS GTA was not selling mainline console GTA numbers we got them for the DS. Some blame such things for the Dreamcast's demise, the PSP too was hampered by such claims. Some also reckon the wii's desert of a release list from the last few years could be attributed to it.

Also at play are "we are not porting because" and "we are not localising because".

Note nobody here really cares if it does or does not actually have a tangible effect, we are going for the first, or otherwise notable, comments from devs, hack journalists and other commentators to that effect.

I think Nintendo Life has some slight connections to Nintendo. They interview Reggie, Miyamoto and other Nintendo people so they are more strict about piracy and hackers. If they promote any of that then they can loose their interviewing chances. And since they promote that, a lot of their sites users reflect that same beliefs. I have seen a couple on the site that are for hacking and they were saying it'll make the Switch better.

@Chary Do you guys get interview copies from Nintendo? And if you do does Nintendo know they are sending them to a hacking site? I wonder if Nintendo cares or not.

NintendoLife is a very biased outlet, but they're a sister site to PushSquare (PlayStation focused) and yet PS doesn't get half as many good interview ops as NL does. I think they're more likely to get codes and interviews as they'll be skewed positively each time.

Nintendo has offered GBAtemp invites to demo events for the Switch for private media. We also get review codes from Nintendo, too. I don't think they care that we're a "hacking" site, as we're also a fairly large "news/review" site as well, which means more exposure for their games, which PR sees as a positive.

Any publicity I guess is good publicity. But they have been very strict with Youtube videos before. And they along with game industries are responsible for making it illegal to rent video games in Japan. Nintendo is usually uptight about this stuff.

PR itself as a profession is ugh... "PR" use to go by another name called "Propaganda." The father of PR was a nephew of Sigmund Freud. And they specialize in Psychoanalytical concepts of Pavlov's Behaviorism, unconscious thinking, behavioral control, and group think to try to maximize profits. They are the reason why we eat a big breakfast like Bacon and Eggs instead of something light like Tea and Toast, how it use to be. Its crazy that these people are responsible for a lot of our customs and traditions nowadays, made up so they can profit. A psychology field originally created to help is used to profit them. A lot of the conditioning stuff they use on us was originally designed for dogs. And we end up buying a lot of crap we don't need.

Eggs and Bacon aren't really that bad if you consider someone working in the labor force would probably need something heavier than toast. A better example IMO is breakfast for kids. Sugar cereals and sugary orange juice is branded as the healthiest thing you can give your kid. Now THAT is some crap.

Theres already people saying that now so.... My predictions is now.

No it isn't so bad. I like big breakfast myself because Bacon, Sausage and Pancakes is tasty. But eating in the morning use to be socially frowned on because people would consider it gluttony. They only ate one meal a day usually around noon. But PR and the Industrial Revolution made this change.
Another PR dude, Watson, also pushed smoking to women saying its sexy as long as they used a specific brand of tooth paste Pebeco. So yay!
And invented Coffee Break to sell more coffee. And convinced women that they need to have a cabinet full of beauty products.

At first I was against PR and Advertisement. But now I just started to accept it. It is what it is. It drives the economy. Even if we are buying lots of material things we don't need. Thats how it is I guess. But our environment and all that, limited resources, worse hurricanes, animals becoming extinct to produce this stuff. I dunno. We live in a better world because of consumerism driving innovation. But at the same time its destroying our planet. hmmm.....

Hey guys remember when rampant piracy killed the DS? I mean it sold 150 million units but imagine how much it would have sold if piracy wasn't rampant? Remember how all developers stopped making new games when all the cheap flashcards came out? And the DS got stuck with a pathetic library of only 1800 games? Shame on you! Shame on us
Don't let it happen to the Switch
