I have three or so on the top of my list.

Definitely GTA: Chinatown Wars because it showed that GTA games don't have to be in third person view to be good

Actually, Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2 proved that.

As for my GOTY, I'm really now sure. There have been many games I got excited for, but none worthy of GOTY come to mind; or maybe it's cause I just woke up.

My runner ups would be: Mario and Luigi: BiS, Suikoden Tierkris, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga, Nostalgia, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Sky, and Scribblenauts.

FFCC: Echoes of Time && Saga 2

Those are a tie for me.

Honorable mention to Scribblenauts for at least being original. Too bad the controls were kinda lame, and the puzzles were too easy.

Suikoden Tierkreis

I have not touched any of the HS or SS as i am waiting for the english dump, as that game is the only chance of piping Suikoden Tierkreis as GOTY.

+1 !!1!11!!!

Goty going to be Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story close Second is Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks.
But the games that kept me amused is:- Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, Nostalgia, Suikoden Teirkreis.

But I have put down my Ds and pick up my 360 Joypad to play Assassin's creed 2 and it's a Great game.

And Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days managed to suck me too.I dun really play RPG but this game is the only one RPG that suck me.. So it is quite success too..

Legend of Zelda :Spirit Track(Looks great but I dun really like RPG)

I think KH is more like a hack-and-slash game than an RPG.

Also, zelda is NOT an rpg.

I would have to say Moon by Mastiff and Renegade Kid. By far one of the best titles for the NDS systems. Featuring creepy music, a lot of neat weapons and gizmos, some puzzles and wicked hard bosses, this game is sure to top the charts. It's story line is fantastic, but it could have gotten a boost here or there. Location wise, well....Your on the Moon. Your in the Moon. Your off the Moon. Not to much to that.

One thing I do not like about it is it's extensive use of robots and the serious lack of alien activity. I'd give it an 9/10 though this year because it's younger rival, C.O.R.E DS sucked balls. Seriously. Horrible repetitive music, choppy A.I. that doesn't threaten you, and a story line ripped right from Doom.

As for RPGs this year...I will have to say Kingdom Hearts, despite it's obvious hack and slash BS and the graphic glitches and bugs, it wins. It had less to me than The World Ends With You, but retained a lot of story elements that the other did not. I didn't really like the soundtrack. I hate Disney invading my ears after years of it as a kid.

Oh well.

I'm sad that only isabelyes mentioned this.

My 2009 pick would be Knights in the Nightmare. Incredible game.

Runners up:

Phantasy Star 0
Final Fantasy CC: Echoes of Time
Scribblenauts
GTA: Chinatown Wars

Best game for 2009? Well, my top three would be (in no particular order):
1. Phantasy Star Zero US
2. Soma Bringer
3. Kingdom Hearts 358/2 (but only coz I like Utada Hikaru)

Soma Bringer came out in 2008.

I honestly think this was an amazing year for the system.

At the top of my list:
Henry Hatsworth
Phantasy Star Zero - I dunno how much of this is nostalgia goggles
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

Runners-up:
Echoes of Time -> with better online play I would have loved it more
Scribblenauts
Big Bang Mini
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

I really, really wanted to love Kingdom Hearts - I haven't played the rest of the series, and the characters pissed me off.

Pokemon Heart Gold (JP)

Though not completely understood, best game I've played all year. Maybe it was nolstagia, maybe it's just awesome. Either way it's at the top of my list.

Although, Spirit Tracks may take the cake soon.

Its a tough choice. Yes it is a disappointing year for gaming, especially with the amount of good games. But even tho they were little in amounts those releases were real gems.
I cant easily think which is the best one for this year, but for a quick answer its either:
GTA:CW or Pokemon Platinum (No HG jp release yet, so this would have to do)
I spent 300+ hrs in platinum and 100+ hrs in GTA:CW. Both are amazing games. ^^

Oh and take note I never liked a single GTA game up until CW. ^^"
