hello everyone, ive been trying to play xenoblade chronicles on my wii using usb loader gx with no luck. my wii was already modded even before i got it so im not sure what causes it to not work. as i said in the title, i get stuck on the "reading disc..." screen even after forcing english language and NTSC. i tested it with other games as well but when i load them (zelda twilight princess) i get launched back to the homebrew channel. i use a fat32 8gb usb and wii backup manager for my games. here is the syscheck:

Try setting your usb loader (or individual game) to IOS250 - no personal experience but I've read somewhere that d2x-53 is worse than d2x-52, at least in certain conditions...

Check your other usb loader settings too or try a different loader, to exclude the possibility of bad settings

And, are you sure the disk is of decent quality (real size, acceptable performance)?

flash drives are known to have compatibility issues, but your problem is maybe something else.
try another device (flash or preferably external hard drive)

try formatting the FAT32 with 32k/cluster. perform a defrag (though, your drive is small enough, I don't think you have a lot of files on it, so it shouldn't be too much fragmented)

check your game iso to know if it's a good dump (wii backup manager > selected game option > sha1)

if still not working, try formatting to NTFS and copy the file without splitting the wbfs, or even copy the full iso without converting to wbfs. (yes, it works with NTFS or ext partition type. you have settings to change in wii backup manager, or just do it manually if you know how to rename and where to copy the game).

thank you for your replies!

is it most likely that the problem is my flash drive? are there no problems with the syscheck?

i cant try another drive since i only have 1 flash drive rn. also already checked if my iso's were good dumps, it didnt show any errors in wii backup manager, and i managed to play xenoblade in dolphin too

im currently reformatting my flash drive to fat32 32k/cluster, i'll let you guys know what happens to that!

i hope this works this time around

your syscheck problem is what Ryccardo told you : use slot250 instead of 249.

Your slot249 contains a bad cIOS version (it's a beta, and guide/users still wrongly think latest is better), it is also based on IOS56 which is fine but not the best. (shouldn't be an issue for Xenoblade)
Your slot250 contains the latest stable and working cIOS version and base.

go to your loader's settings and set slot250 as default for games.

Sometime, 32k/cluster and/or defrag is enough to fix game freezing. (it happens with Metroid Other M too)

ok, its still not working for some reason. ive tried setting the loader to 250, the games to 250, and both to 250, and its still stuck on the "reading disc..." screen. ive also already reformatted to fat32 32k/cluster.

i guess theres the ntfs format, but idk what my chances are for that one at this point...

maybe its really my flash drive?

maybe, yes.

you said it's your only USB device, but I'm sure you have more.
for example, you could test with an USB SD adapter, a phone (well, maybe not enough space or not fat32), anything which can connect in USB and is mounted as partition.
it might be slow, but it's something you can try (USB to SD adapter is probably working), it's another flash which could have the same issue, but it's another device.

oh ok, i do have an external hdd (ntfs) that i can use (cant format it though). i'll give it a shot and maybe if that fails i'll try to format the flash drive im using now to ntfs and see if one of them would work

EDIT: btw, do you think it could also be that im not using the settings that should i generally use for usb loader gx? aside from changing both the loader and game to ios250, and the loader language to english, what else should i change?

ive tested my external hdd (ntfs) and now instead of getting stuck in the "reading disc..." screen, it just returns me to the homebrew channel every time i try to play xenoblade (just like what twilight princess did to me when i tried to play it from fat32). im using the .iso file. maybe i copied it incorrectly? i did it just the way i would for fat32, i made a wbfs folder at the root of my hdd then copied the .iso there and renamed it to Xenoblade Chronicles [SX4E01].iso

oh god, these games are such a pain xd

ive finally managed to fix it! i used my ntfs format hdd and used wii backup manager to transfer my games there. i guess the fat32 flash drive that i was using was the problem after all, i havent tried reformatting that to ntfs to see if it would work as well

thanks a lot cyan and ryccardo!

What happened when you used ii Backup Manager is that it extracted the iso and transferred it as WBFS files, this is probably why it now works.

that's the wrong path (at least, not the default/best one). Don't install games manually.
Best path is :
/wbfs/folder with game title [TitleID6]/TitleID6.wbfs

But your first issue is probably due to Flashdrive not compatible.
your second issue is probably due to using NTFS instead of FAT32 without refreshing the loader's settings (it expected fat32 so it used FAT32 libraries on NTFS partitions) : settings > hdd menu > first option to force a refresh of hdd partitions.
