So I Photoshopped a second anolog slider on the right side to show how it might look. Personally, I don't think it would take much for Nintendo to put a second slider on the right, to ensure that all First Person games control with ease on the 3DS. I realize that Resident Evil 4 didn't need the right analog stick, since holding the shoulder buton entered "aim mode" where players couldn't move while aiming. This might work for the RE designed for the 3DS, but with the touch screen being smaller than the 3D screen, FPS still won't have the control they need.

I see that empty space on the right of the 3DS, and the picture I provided shows how Nintendo could add this control, greatly improving these type of games on the handheld. I'm optomistic that we haven't seen the final design of the 3DS, so here's hoping for a second analog slider.

this. nice photoshop btw, i really hope nintendo sees this because from what i have heard the sliders are great and adding a second one would really make this the best portable system for fps's ever which would be pretty sweet, please just do it nintendo...

You don't really need a second analog slider.
In fact there is a lot of motion sensor and gyroscope technology incorporated to make up for the loss of the second analog and open up even more gameplay experience.
Between motion sensors, and touch screen, do we really need a second analog slider ?
    I don't think so.
Besides, having an original control scheme, means developers will have to put some effort in their games and provide us with original content, I'd hate to see PS2 games cheaply ported to the 3DS...............

but the second analog slider would give devs one more option to make their games with, and it really wouldnt cost nintendo anything to add it so i dont see why not

You either don't play first person shooters, or don't realize how this would benefit gameplay. I guess you'd rather use a thumb stylus to navigate the camera (via touch-screen) on the next Metroid Prime game for 3DS, rather than have a proper control scheme. The true gamer in me beckons for a second analog slider, and I imagine most will agree.

Please quote specifically from the article, because I just read the whole thing, and nowhere did I hear them mention limitations that would not allow a second analog slider. I hope I'm just tired, and overlooked part of the boring read, but I can't seem to find it. Make me embarassed by my lack of reading, please.

Yeah, just 'cause there's room on the face doesn't mean there's room for it IN the shell [IMG]

I thought Metroid prime hunters on DS controlled really well, and that didn't even have one analogue stick... So I don't think it's too necessary. The touch screen can act like a mouse, so FPS will still have plenty of control.

    It would be cool though.

IMO adding a 2nd analog stick will increase production cost thus increasing the price of the 3ds. Considering that there are a handful of games that utilizes dual analog, its not really that important as well as the pain of inserting the 2nd analog on the handheld in which i think will change the current design to a bulkier version.

I don't see the need, though I'm not big on fps's, so that could be coloring my view.
I will say this though, Metroid Prime 1 and 2 handed great on the gamecube, and they only used one of the sticks for movement.

Very good points, indeed. I too realize that a lot is going on under the surface, and to add the second slider would jumble things a bit. Nintendo has dodged around the lack of a right analog stick, even on the GameCube (where it had one). Perhaps their innovative game design will once again prove that one analog stick is enough.

It's just that games like Metroid Prime: Hunters, Call of Duty (all of them), Dimentium 1&2, and the other first-person DS games felt crippled by the touch screen controls. I even bought one of those stupid thumb stylus to help things out, but nothing felt right. It's not to say that I play my current DS Lite for the plethora of FPS titles (since there's so few), but with the upgrade in graphics the 3DS has to offer, it seems like the FPS genre could finally translate well to a portable system. The PSP failed on controlling this genre, and I just want the DS to differ. What can I say, I love FPS.

I finished RE4 on the GameCube multiple times and I've never used the camera adjusting C-stick, I think if 3rd person games are well made you don't need to be constantly adjusting it, but I do understand it may be an issue to left-handed people.

You could use the touchscreen as a second analoge stick..

Two analog controllers are quintessential in not only console FPS gaming but gaming in general. The inclusion of a second analog stick should be but a rudimentary introduction to the 3DS controls.

And using the touch screen for FPS, like Metroid Prime, just strained my right hand.
