System Menu 4.2 uses IOS70.

hang on there, don't do anything stupid now, you keep messing with stuff when you don't know what you should do.

To be honest, I'm stuck here too...

Try this.

Backup your bootmii folder somewhere save.
Take it off of your SD Card.

Turn Wii on and hold reset, let's see if preloader boots.

ok I will try that for you but can someone tell me how to uninstall preloader?

and I haven't been messing with anything, just following your instructions, the only reason I would switch back to IOS70 (and I never got the chance to) is because the other guy said that is what 4.2 used so I thought i'd be a possible solution

Proader might have an unistall function. Or you could install a new system menu 4.2 wad (MAKE SURE IT'S THE RIGHT ONE FOR YOUR REGION)

Thank you sir, thought you were gone already hehe, guess you're still here =)

To be honest, why do have to update to 4.2 anyway? Just for the purpose of hacking it? I'm happy with my 4.1 and everything working. Thanks

I removed bootmii from the SD Card for now, still no signal getting to the tv from the wii

it was on IOS70 by default

then you told me to switch it to 60, try, then 61, try, and then back to 60 and try

I did all of that and tried every time, none of them worked but preloader was still loading at that point, then I went to turn it on again and only bootmii would load then

FenrirWolf, where can I get a good NTSC-US system menu 4.2?

4.2 isn't causing me any problems, it's preloader

but there is no reason to update, we are just doing testing here for people who already have 4.2 systems

This is a post for people that had their Wii updated to 4.2 while they didnt want to (e.g. accident, rabbit updating their wii, brother, sister etc.) or bought a virgin 4.2

Uninstall

The simplest and safest way to remove Preloader is to reinstall the System Menu using AnyRegion Changer (dont do that = brick on LU64+ and Firmware 4.2+ since it changes boot to v4 just like LU64+ has) or a WAD installer. You can also use restoremii with the Bootmii app to reinstall your backup of your system menu, if you had Bootmii installed before Preloader was installed.

Well, of course there is no need to update, but remember that all of this will be good knowledge whenever Nintendo starts to ship new units with factory installed v4.2. Without experimenting and getting things functional, you would not be able to have those "other" abilities of the Wii that so many frown upon

I'm not going to get into legality/morality about this, but I think you know what I mean.

TT is incredible and got us back up and running homebrew wise on ALL Wii units....and in a day. But, of course they will not help you get your backup loaders on it

On the first page where it explains how to do everything i have a question.

It says use cboot2.Now when you download that and look at the readme file it shows the structure needed for it to work but it says it doesn't include certain files ext..

I assume we need these files to get cboot2 to run properly or am i wrong?

Also if they are needed what needs to be put into nus downloader to get them?

EDIT: i over looked that readme contained the links to the needed files.

if you goto NUSD > Database >System > System menu > 449 (4.1U)

you end up with this

0000000100000002 v 449

my conclusion: 4.2 = 481 for usa

0000000100000002 v 481

Don't know if it's correct though

you know what, I can just go to 4.1 USA right? that'd be more for sure, I think I'll just do that unless there is a reason I should not.

then I'll just load homebrew via bootmii and use WAD Manager 1.5 to install it

better not.. I don't know what'll happen, I'm not really into the changing sysmenu things as I've never used it before like this.
