Wolves coming to minecraft

Very little very late. Minecraft's updates have made the game slow to a crawl for me and is now basically unplayable on my high-end but multi-core computer. Even with a batch of settings tweaks Minecraft needs new engine optimizations as badly as new content which could tmodded in anyway if the modding tools were good enough.
Strange... because on my dated PC, Minecraft 1.3 plays better than the old versions.
And it IS getting engine optimizations, in fact Notch has adopted two community made optimizations for the 1.3 update.

Looks like awesome fun!

I do agree that they seem a bit overpowered though.
I think before you tame them, they try to attack you and maybe 1 out of every 15 or 20 bones would work.

Jeb did it on the first or second try which seems way too easy considering how common bones are.

Anyone know if they're ridable?

This is what Minecraft needed in the first place. I never really liked the single player mode because it felt so lonely and boring. Now all it needs is a quest system and it could be completely enjoyable.

Furries.

SADDLE!
It'd be cool to ride them in a controllable fashion for speed rather than the randomness of pigs.

I could never work out what you are meant to do in the game, what's the point or what's the goal. Some sort of introduction quest might help there.

For most people, it's to get by the first few nights (Survival) as safely as possible, then building the most impressive / useful / totallycool home.

The game definitely isn't for just anyone. I personally believe whoever liked LEGO would like this game (as I did).

Agree it's not for everyone - At first I didn't think I'd like it.... but, although it IS a bit boring playing 'single player' - trying to think of ways of creating new 'buildings' is challenging
(& yes I USE to play with Lego when I was a kid)

As for the Dogs/Wolves additon, nice !!! - but I think there should actually BE Wolves that attack you [in packs ??] (& not just at night) perhaps they can have a darker 'skin', & If you befriend them (Give them Meat perhaps) they get a collar or something so you know they're on your side

One addition I think I'd like would be some kind of 'radar' craft.... it is such a pain hearing MODS (when digging etc) but not knowing in which direction they are (a 'mineral' radar wouldn't go amiss either) both 'tell' you in the general direction (in a limited range) BUT not the level they're at

Survive the night? OK I don't remember anything trying to kill me or night time happening. Guess I didn't give it long enough, I couldn't work out how to do anything but hit trees and the ground

Lol, I used to love lego. I once mad a clock that only lost like 10 seconds a day out of lego.

There are three things I wanted to see implemented in Minecraft:

- Money/Currency (to make shops useable)
- More craftables (specially decorations)
- Modes for adventures (well, this is already a promise).

Yep working monsters (in multiplayer) were finally working... December '20 / January '11 I believe.

I just went by the contents of this thread. I don't know who the hell Jeb is.

I don't go on the Minecraft forums often, excuuuuseeee me.
The forums have nothing to do with that, it's mentioned in the new Minecraft launcher (!) as well as on Notch's blog.

I can't wait for wolves! I'm glad we can finally tame animals. The animation in which they shake water off themselves looks quite cute!

At least a game mode with currency... sometimes it's boring just making stuff... there's almost no interaction between players on most of the servers.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this in mind.

Like I said above, use iron, gold and diamond as currency.
Diamond should be valuable and should be used to purchase a great load of stuff. Gold would be 1/10th of the value of diamond and iron would be 1/10th of the value of gold.
So 10 gold = 1 diamond and 10 iron = 1 gold. You could implement this on a server of your own.

I think you need to be careful with the money thing, go too far with tech and buying/selling and it will end up like the Sims (which is good, but minecraft should be a completely different game)

WHY? Please tell me the need for an actual currency?
What would it add to the game that can't be done by exchange of materials?

I really hate to single out a particular group of people, but when it comes to online games I REALLY hate Brazilians... and this sums it up perfectly: http://www.lolbot.net/pix/2956.png
I cannot recall how many free MMO servers have been ruined by an influx of Brazilians doing stupid shit like this.

WTF? Cool out man, the retard brasilians that you hate aren't everyone, just the retarded kids who don't even know english, or just the basic. A retard is a retard anywhere. You don't have to generalize, not everyone here is like them.

Yeah, I know this can be used, but the players can't really trade things, my server already does that... they need to throw out them on the floor, right? Or someone already has a mod for trading things? Because I don't know any.
