Hacking Speculations about Switch 2 hacking

Wait, you’re telling me that in the glorious year 2026, humanity has achieved the impossible: extracting information from a device that was repeatedly declared by multiple forum experts to be absolutely, mathematically, spiritually, and probably legally unhackable?

The same device that, according to countless confident predictions from GBATemp all-knowing prophets, would never leak anything because the system was "proven" to be completely impenetrable?

And the shocking revelation is that a regular hacker found a software flaw and exposed weaknesses in Nintendo’s internal architecture because apparently implementing basic security practices, which have been common knowledge for decades, was considered an optional premium feature?

Now, after all those heroic declarations of "this will never happen", it turns out the device was not protected by an ancient security ritual blessed by the gods of encryption, but by ordinary software written by ordinary humans that apparently contained ordinary flaws?

Truly a historic day. Thousands of years of cybersecurity research have led us to this revolutionary discovery: maybe calling something unhackable on a forum does not actually make it unhackable.

However, simply having a complete memory dump alone does not constitute a full hack. It is primarily an information leak that makes further analysis significantly easier. If the dump is fully unencrypted, it could reveal valuable runtime data, keys, or implementation details that enable various attacks. However, by itself, this would likely benefit piracy-related research more than homebrew development, since homebrew still requires a way to execute unauthorized code on the system.

It's amazing how few people here understand what actually hacking the Switch 2 would look like, and how easily manipulated by social media posts from non-elite hackers you are.

Spoiler alert: This ain't anything. But go ahead and celebrate as if this proves you right and me wrong. It's the closest thing to a win you'll see in the Switch 2's lifetime. And yet it's useless; won't lead to anything.

Sixty-five pages of comments on this subject and not one bit of actual progress. 🤣 What a forum!

The memories of the Baghdad Bob memes are coming back. That poor man stood in front of the cameras claiming victory while, in the background, US forces were pulling down Saddam Hussein statues. In this memes he was still telling the world that the statues were only being removed to make room for even bigger ones.

The strangest part is that I still wonder whether he actually believed what he was saying. He continued denying the reality of the situation even as events unfolded, and there were reports of him rejecting the scale of the US invasion and its aftermath, even after Saddam Hussein’s execution video appeared online.

The pattern is strikingly similar to what has been seen from some users here. First, the system is declared impossible to hack. Then, once hacks appear, they are dismissed as fake. After that, the argument shifts to claiming that the hacks are insignificant and provide no meaningful benefits. Next, they are reduced to being useful only for piracy rather than legitimate homebrew development and therefore are not real hacks. Finally, the definition of a hack is moved entirely by arguing that it is not a real hack unless PS5 games can run natively at 60 FPS on the Switch directly from the BD-Rom inserted in the game-slot using an hydraulic press. Just so noone has to admit that telling the world something is unhackable is a bold and directly stupid statement in the first place.

Personally, if there was something to be had from this to benefit the hacking community, making it public isn't exactly the best way to go about it.

True, especially at such an early stage in the device’s lifespan and considering that the flaw can be fixed relatively easily. The situation would be completely different if this were a hardware vulnerability, like the tweezers exploit, where the issue is fundamentally tied to the device design and cannot simply be patched through software.
