I wanna attempt to drowngrade but I'm still too afraid :(

What are the chances for a hardbrick in a N3DS using this safesysupdater (or another latest one) if I don't do anything stupid?

I can totally format the console and the SDCard before do it.

Many thanks for this, I'm considering downgrading in order to keep playing pokemon shuffle without updating and losing homemenuhax or any hax at all (if smea can't update for 10.4).

I'm on N3DS, so I'm reluctant to downgrade, but this seems like the tool to do it. How many people have downgraded using this tool? Are there any known hard bricks yet?

I downgraded my 3DS 2 times and my cousin's 3DS was downgraded too. If you have the right files and you know at least 40% of the stuff you are doing, I'd say you can go on and downgrade. :P

ok, so I'm trying this right now (new3ds, 10.3.0.28E) and I've followed @AidanLumina guide found in page7 (using SafeSysUpdater). I checked my files succesfully but after pressing Y to downgrade it gave me an error very fast. When you pres A to go back, since the boot.3dsx file is now the SafeSysUpdater file (remember I followed that guide) it boots again into the updater. Instead of swithing off the console, I tried downgrading again (fail) and again. Now the updater is stuck at the Map Complete line. From using FBI I suspect that the updater has crashed and I need to reboot the system, but I want to make sure before I switch it off...so, should I keep waiting?

I guess this is why I told you to use Steveice10's sysUpdater... If the problem isn't solved automatically until now, you will have to turn off your system, take the sysUpdater of Steveice10 and make it the boot.3dsx instead. You'll have to try several times until it will work but it will work once it's loaded successfully.

Ok...I'll try with SteveIce10's sysUpdater...first try failed to get CIA file information....second try...wooops, it's installing :-)
Fingers crossed now...

Hi,

Since some people seems to wait for a safer downgrader, i did one in a few hours. This is a fork of sysupdater, with a few things added which should prevent some errors (wrong region downgrade pack, corrupted downloads...) :

- automatically load update information (needed files, md5) based on your 3ds model and region
- md5 check all the cia update files before downgrading
- can check your update files without actually downgrading

To use it you have to :

- Put SafeSysUpdater.3dsx somewhere you can launch it...
- Put your downgrade pack as usual ("/updates/*.cia")
- Launch it multiple times until it pass the black screen (hax)...
- Pray

  • PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS HAVE THE SAME DOWNGRADE CODE THAN ORIGINAL SYSUPDATER
  • DOWNGRADE PROCESS IS NEVER 100% SAFE
  • BE SURE TO BE ON 10.3 BEFORE DOWNGRADING, SEEMS TO PREVENT SOME SOFT BRICK
  • SOME TIPS TO PREVENT A BRICK : HERE

Changes :

- v06: try to fix input freeze... again
- v05: minor input fix
- v04: added japan support (with bad title skipping)
- v03: big improvement in hax success rate
- v02: Add simulation mode to check your update files without actually downgrading
- v01: Removed the config files, just put the ".3dsx" file somewhere and downgrade... and pray.
- v01: Added a CIA version to downgrade from emunand so you don't need to try hard to get the hax to succeed (so it's just for testing/reporting bugs). Testing this will ensure the MD5 for each regions/models (only o3DS/n3DS USA/EUR for now) and downgrade process is correct/working. Thanks for reports !

is this the newest version in the post

If I get the black screen after pressing Y and it hangs there, is it safe to turn off the system to try again?
(actual downgrading hasn't started yet I believe?)

You probably figured it out but yes :) The goal is to retry. I noticed that waiting maybe 10 secondes in HB launcher before launching safeSysupdater seems to help the hax to succeed.
