What's the difference between the info in the red box?
Note that C: is my new main partition and I will soon be deleting D

Is there a way to make C: just "System" and not what's there (boot, crash dump, etc)?
I've already switched C: to active.

Chrash dump stays for place where logs will be dumped with chrash fro bios or windows itself and boot stays for that it is bootable(ofcourse for a windows install =P)
so no changes of it is needed

My C got same info and my system reserved same as your D so XP has diferent properties added to disk then win 7

Ah I see, so a Windows 7 partition is supposed to have that status?

What does "system" mean? I would think if I only use C as the OS, that would be system, not D. :\

I'm going to assume that it really doesn't matter what flags Windows 7 gives the drive just as long you boot directly into Win 7. Delete the XP partition if your done with it. The "system" flag, if you're really worried about it, will return to the Win 7 partition once XP is gone.

BTW the first partition is Mac OS X Leopard then down would be Mac OS X Snow Leopard and the last one is Ubuntu. Windows can't read any of their file formats so they all appear blank and do not mount.

Hey guys,

So I just went through the whole BOOTMGR missing problem. This occurred while I was deleting files to shrink my XP partition while transferring files to my 7 partition. Luckily I was able to repair it using the Windows 7 disc.

Just an irrelevant but tiny question- why, when I try to do certain actions (rename a drive, etc), does it keep saying that I need to be an administrator (I already am), but does the action anyway after hitting "Continue"?

If you're in Windows 7, that's User Account Control for you. It's a VERY annoying feature, but if you think it's annoying in 7 you should have seen it in Vista. Horrid. Either way, going into User Accounts in Control Panel you should be able to turn it down or even turn it off.

Yeah, I remember my friend's laptop that had Vista on it; everything he touched brought up the notification!

Another 7 related question to those who know about the "BOOTMGR is missing" problem- what causes it exactly? And how likely is it to reoccur?
I read that either:
a) you deleted the file (said to be in the root of your system partition)
b) infected by malware

The thing is, I was only deleting files in my Program Files folder; so unless it was somehow stored in there, I don't know how my issue came to be.

Then, click Advanced System Settings, go to the Advanced tab if not already there, and click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section. Choose Windows 7 as your default operating system if not already chosen. If all of that is already done, try running a scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware in Safe Mode (get there by pressing F8 during the boot process) to see if you have any viruses. If that doesn't solve your issue, your bootloader (or SLIC, depending on how you cracked Windows) did not install correctly, and a reinstallation might be in order.

I fixed it, but was just wondering how it may've been caused. I just ran the repair steps included with the Windows 7 disc. Thanks!

It's a possibility, but I frequently run scans (Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Kaspersky) every night or second night. :\

Haha I actually ended up turning off my computer (this was after I had successfully installed 7) when I tried to shrink a partition via the Windows disk manager but it wouldn`t do anything. I waited for half an hour to shrink by 20GB, but it just showed the loading cursor.

Who knows, it could be almost anything. Whenever Windows is doing something as important as shrinking a partition, you should never just turn it off regardless of how much time it takes. Oh well, if the damage has been done and is fixed already, then all is well.

I'm sure you've all heard of the KB971033 update that kills cracks / loaders.
Well, I just found in my update history that it was installed.

I followed these steps as told to be Daz:
* Launch the loader application and select to uninstall
* Restart the PC
* Install the loader and restart the PC
* Visit the following website to revalidate Windows: www.microsoft.com/genuine/

After following the steps, it says that activation is successful.. assuming that it's still genuine?

My question is- since I've already installed the crack-killer and have dealt with it, can it be installed as an update again? Or is it a done deal?
EDIT: And are there any more known crack-killer updates?

Windows Activation Technologies is the only crack-killer out there. Just look for it before you install updates - do not install it! It says it's WAT in the description. Just hide that update if you ever get it on your list again.

But if it still says "Installed" in my update history, will it ever appear as another update again?

Regardless of which Windows I have, pirated or legit, I always have automatic updates download updates but let me choose when/which to install, because I don't like updates like that spying on me. I have two computers with legit Windows 7 and I still don't install WAT because it's invading my privacy in my opinion.

For sure. Just changed my settings so that it doesn't install on its own.
How would you actually know if the whole WAT is active on your computer?
