I'm sorry for starting a new topic for something old (probably), but I'm short on time.
I would like to buy Windows 7, but..
My dad is retarded with PC's. So I want to know, does working with 7 differ much from XP/
And, of course, is 1536 MB RAM and a Nvidia GT 8400 512 MB Graphics Card strong enough to run?
I know the specifications, but I would like some feedback^^

You will have trouble with only 1.5 GB Ram. I have 2 GB with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and it is sometimes not enough.

My mother has 512MB ram, a cpu of 3ghz and some graphic card that's about as good as a GeForce 6200 (it's from ati tho, but I remember games running the same speed as on my 6200)..
And, yea, it runs fine, and I'm quoting my mother "It's so much faster now with Windows 7!".

So yea, good to go

I am planning to upgrade to 2 GB RAM (The max for my PC -.-') and buy Windows 7 Professional.
Is that good to go?

With a ram upgrade, you should be good. I would get 7 ultimate and use 32 bit unless your PC can handle 64 bit architecture.

What's better in Ultimate? Faster? I want Windoes 7 to be as fast as possible, with XP functions
They have changed the naming and Ultimate is the best. I got it for $20.00 from my college when it came out. If you want the best get Ultimate.

My computer has only 1GB of RAM and Windows 7 runs perfectly fine, with no lag. Games even run better on Windows 7 than on Windows XP (TF2, HL2 and such).
Even before I had 512MB of RAM, Windows 7 ran fine (Abit of lag when I turned Aero on but ofc, it wasn't suited for gaming)

I'd say go get Windows 7, regardless if you have 1.5GB or not. It'll run just smoothly.

If I were you I would download the lite version of XP and not the retail, probably the best option to go with considering your specs.

The minimum hardware requirements for Windows XP Home Edition are:

* Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
* At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
* At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
* CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
* Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
* Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600)or higher resolution
* Sound card
* Speakers or headphones

If you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, DON'T POST.

OS threads always piss me off. So full of people that obviously have no fucking clue what they're talking about.

Well I've had experiences with a couple of OS's from Linux Distros to mainstream OSs, so I'm not really new at computer. I was just suggesting a Lite version of XP over Windows 7, because I have tried both on a comp with similar specs and a Lite version of XP worked best for me. The retail XP is full of Bloatware which isn't needed; Lite is always a good alternative if you don't want to have to keep up with daily maintenance and have to remove unnecessary services manually.
