I've seen the "windows 7 retail final" verify as windows 7 7600.16385 which is the same as the rtm so does that mean they are not really retail?

RTM is the final product aka the retail product...

so minox you think it is the retail?
What I said was not a thought of mine, it was a fact. I think you ought to look up what RTM really means so that you understand things better.

yes I know its the release to be pre install on pc's but there is no diff in rtm and retail? like a nicer install or more themes or somthing? (silly stuff)

RTM is retail. It's the final press of the disc that will be in retail. There are very few times when an RTM wouldn't be the same as a retail disc, which is when a serious bug is found in the RTM code.

RTM = Release To Manufacturing
AKA Final build
AKA Retail
AKA the version going on the disc!

I have ultimate 7 rtm installed now that is oem activated and I don't see what else they could put on the disc. Themes can be downloaded from microsoft, I'm sure there will be updates on day one (they just released 13 updates the other day), WGA will be coming I'm sure. Also I don't know of any OEM that would preinstall unfinished OS's on their retail PC's (well besides vista lol).
