Hi, I wanted to ask if some Switch 2 homebrew will be backported to ordinary Nintendo Switch models. With the absurd prices and anti-consumer practices of the Switch 2, I won't be getting that console.

I also feel that Nintendo GameCube Classics is a scam, since we already got an optimized Mario Sunshine for the Switch (as part of Mario All-Stars). So here's hoping some titles like Zelda: Wind Waker could be similarly backported to the original Switch models, once GCN Classics has been cracked like the NSO for NES, SNES, N64, GB, and GBA.

Surely one of the dumbest questions in forum history. My ps3 has HEN, can I play ps5 games on it?

I'm not asking for like Mario Kart World on Switch 1. The thread title could be misconstrued though. It was more about Switch 2 homebrew and if those optimized GameCube titles would be able to find their way on the Switch 1.

There are GameCube emulators for switch 1. They don't work well. Future homebrew that takes advantage of the switch 2 power won't be worth using on switch 1. I have a hard time imagining a world where homebrew gets developed for switch 2 that is worth using on switch 1.

The Switch is a little weak to run Gamecube games at full speed. You can try Dolphin, most games are not full speed, but some run quite well.
As for homebrew, for the most part it will be the other way around. If/when the Switch 2 is hacked, we will see a lot of Switch homebrew ported to Switch 2 with improved performance (emulators etc) and ports of utilities like ftpd due to the similarity of the platforms. There won't be that much new homebrew for the Switch 2, since the homebrew scene nowadays is mainly ports of existing open source software anyway.
Maybe with a few notable exceptions. We could see native HOS ports of more demanding emulators like Dolphin or even PCSX2, those are unlikely to be backported since they just won't run that well on Switch.
But apart from that, it makes more sense to just port what is already available for Switch than write new software.

Again, what about the example of Super Mario Sunshine on 3D All-Stars?

On what planet are Switch 2 prices absurd?

It's $450. A 256gb steam deck at launch was $699. ROG Ally's and similar handheld PCs are $900+.

I imagine the first useful kernel homebrew entrypoint will be kept private for reverse-engineering and dumping Switch 2 game cards, which when disassembled will reveal how the Switch 2 does it's system calls, which will be used to eventually create a virtualization of those syscalls for the purposes of emulating the Switch 2 OS, a year or 2 after which the exploit will be patched, and the exploit will be public knowledge. It will be used to find other exploits, which will be kept private for the most part until Switch 2 EOL, and eventually we'll get a modchip and a CFW, with eventual cheats and telemetry blocking.

Estimated, this will take about a year for the first exploit, then 2 more for the second, and 2 or 3 more for the modchip and CFW, and another year or 2 for everything else. Also, expect a kernel exploit for the Switch to be unveiled that needs applied on every boot to enable homebrew and such (but not full CFW or cheats) around the beginning of next year, as Switch will be approaching EOL at that point as no new first party games will be developed.
