Only if Nintendo didn't implement bans. XCIs only have one cert so it's easy to track abuse there. NSPs will never be playable online, safely that is.

So, online only happens with emunand and paying for the games you're playing online or a separate, special pirate online in which you only play with other pirates that's cut off from Nintendo servers.

Given Nintendo's renewed "shots fired" at piracy sites that are easy targets, it's unlikely they're going to let people abuse the switch online and they have the security backend, finally, to pretty much implement it flawlessly. (Things are inconsistent now for a reason. You can bet once their official online gets running you'll see more and more bans, even from the "clever" people trying to circumvent and obfuscate. Next year is likely to be purge year)

You know, when I want to go online with my PS3, I actually have an app that hides my CID and activity from Sony. (well, its two apps... PSNPatch, and PSNinja by name) Maybe an app like those two could do it...

Well, you kinda already can.

You can use switch-lan-play while simultaneously blocking Nintendo's servers, that way you can play "lan mode" games like Splatoon 2 or MarioKart 8 DX.

If you legitimately purchase the games you want to play online, you can restore a "clean" NAND backup beforehand so you're running a stock Switch, and there will be no reason Nintendo can see for banning you (it's a bit of a more complicated process than that, but the point is it's possible.)

In the future, when PROPER emunand support is released, it will be much easier to hide your CFW usage from Nintendo, which will make playing online with your LEGIT games much easier (assuming you haven't already been banned).

Or, you can purchase a second NAND chip for your Switch online, keep one Stock and use the other for CFW. Swap them out as needed.

As far as playing pirated games online? It's likely your only solution will be LAN-based, like switch-lan-play.

That solution has to be the most extreme way to play online on a hacked Switch. It might work, but at this point, most people would just choose to buy a second console and play the legit stock Switch online, and keep the hacked one for offline use.

Not really, it's on a board that easily pops on and off. It's a lot less extreme than these people soldering Trinkets onto their motherboard. I'm considering buying one of those 3rd party Switch cases online, and cutting myself a little door in it to easily swap the chips.

All things considered, it's relatively rare that I bother going online with my Switch. I haven't even bought a subscription yet.
