I signed up for Jamster (A ringtone service) All I did is put in my cell phone # and then it sent me a text with a PIN. I entered it on their website and it said I was activated. Then I saw it would cost me $9.99/month and immediately deactivated. Will I still be charged? My parents will be pissed if it does....

I know I am stupid, but what do I do?
And I called them and they said the do not deal with minors since I am 16. WTF.

If they will not deal with minors then they cannot make a contract with one and charge you monthly?

Depends man, I never use that sort of service myself. (we are on the net, you dont need to pay to get ringtones and stuff lol) But from what friends have said these sort of places make it really hard to get out of. You probably have been charged the $10 already, if you get charged next month, who knows. Try and contact them, demand they dont charge you or you will go to higher authorities is all I can really advise.

edit: The minors thing is a good point, but I assume the contract isnt in your name but your parents, which is what they may argue.

If that's the case then they are in BREACH OF CONTRACT they sold a service to a minor!

get your parents to call them up and argue that point and that no more charges to your number will be made or its going to be taken further! (explain to your parents you messed up and realised your mistake immediately and want it to be stopped I'm sure they will understand if your honest!)

these services are a PITA in the UK too and should be BANNED!

for future reference use GOOGLE as your source for mobile items ..seek and ye shall find!

Yeah you shouldnt be afraid to admit to your parents that you made a mistake, and didnt realise there was such a high charge for their service. Keeping it a secret is probably a bad idea.

I didn't even download anything either. So basically I gave them my number, realized I was going to be charged, then canceled within 2 min. Hopefully they don't charge, I am going to call my service provider tomorrow and see if they can do anything. If anyone else has any info, please share.

The phone line is under is his parent's name no doubt, so it isn't breach of contract. You will most likely be charged. These companies make tons of money off people like you (sorry but it's true) that don't read the fine print and get pulled into monthly charge plans without even knowing it. Your best bet would be calling again to ask, but if they ask your age just claim you are over 18. Good luck.

Tell your parents about it and have them call the phone company to make sure it's deactivated. There's nothing you can do about the initial $9.99 payment though. Have your parents spank you, and consider it a lesson learned.

Frankly, $10 for that lesson is cheap.

Well I was doing one of those online freebies and stuff. It turns out that they were going to charge me $47 USD!!! But I called my service provider and they had no problem crediting back my account. PHEW!
