The timing of Gateway's announcement suggests that they are using one of the same exploits that smealum is. Is Gateway on firmware 9.x going to require Cubic Ninja as a result?

I'm going to look into my crystal ball and see?, it says it does not know and no one else does apparently! How would anyone know this apart from Gateway themselves but tbh I doubt it very much.

I'm suspecting that the kernel exploit is the same. I'm kind of wondering whether the 9.x firmware version of Gateway will have every feature.

Whats the deal with people assuming just because the timing is similar they HAVE TO BE the same thing?

For one, Smealum has an outspoken dislike for anything piracy related, which Gateway basicly is the flagship of at the moment.
So odds of them working together is pretty much non-existent. (Similarly its unlikely that they'd work together with a competitor like SKY3DS.)

But more importantly, do you not realize that the most *obvious* reason for the timing being similar is the release of the New 3DS?
Knowing that the release of a new exploit is likely going to be locked down shortly after, what better time to blow it open than right after the release of Nintendo's new device.
Thereby assuring that (atleast for the Japanese and European devices) they have a window for sales.
Much like the 4.x devices before, the 9.x New 3DS' and anything coming after untill the exploit gets locked down will offer Gateway sales.

Similarly, Smealum probably timed his release for the same reason.
And I would not be surprised if even SKY3DS waited to be sure their card worked on the Japanese New 3DS devices.

The fact that titles such as Pokemon OR/AS are releasing is probably an added bonus.

If there is *ANY* reason for these releases to be so close together other than pure coincidence.
Then its more likely related to Nintendo than to eachother.

Now thats not to say that the SKY3DS release may have influenced Gateway's release schedule - but that doesn't imply any more than a healthy bit of competition.
Right now is simply a good opportunity to rack up additional sales, since a lot of people will have renewed interest in the platform.

The two exploits are nothing alike, Gateway has nothing to do with ssspwn and supposedly their update won't require any external hardware to execute.
Unless Gateway is stealing another exploit. ;)

Anyway, I think these questions are stupid. How the hell are people supposed to know this? Every 10 seconds someone is asking if the official Gamecube Controller Adapter will work with Nintendont, when we haven't even had a look at it yet.

Very likely, but I'd probably point the "finger of blame" at sky3DS. :P

Precisely. First we need a proper hands-on, then we can start answering questions.

No, they do not realize that, as smealum clearly stated that he delayed the release for the New 3DS/XL.

Based on the logic that people like Myria are using, all Nintendo-related exploits are on Nintendo consoles, so there is a good chance that the Cubic Ninja exploit would work on the Wii U, as it plays Nintendo games too. Just put the 3DS game in the Wii U's SD Card slot.

Snort, so true about some people. But not me. My logic is that Gateway could have gotten smealum's exploit from one of his beta testers or developers, then reverse engineered it. Gateway may have been sitting upon a kernel/ARM9 exploit, but had no way to bootstrap it on 9.x. Smealum's exploit may have provided the necessary bootstrap, in the form of an exploitable game.

Reverse engineer an exploit that requires cubic ninja? Then make it work without cubic ninja? Right...........these speculations are really getting out of hand.......

That's not logic, that's speculation.

You can't build a logical chain, based on assumptions, as I pointed out in your quote, your "logic" is ONLY assumptions and no valid facts.

The facts are :

1)Smealum's exploit has been know for a long while.

2)Gateway has announced the support for 9.x, before Smealum released his exploit, heck before he even announced Cubic Ninja.

3)Smealum has already released the exploit, but nothing from Gateway yet.

Gateway said we wouldn't need any additional hardware. So no

I can tell you on good authority that there's another hacker/developer RE'ing the distinct stages of Ninjhax and so far said hacker/developer found nothing that'd be capable of providing kernel-level access on 9.x firmwares. If anything pops up, GBAtemp users will surely be some of the first to know. ;)

gatway could also be a super secret department at the nintendo office, to boost the 3ds sales with firmware 4.5......

tbh:
those exploits from gateway and smea are completely different, and gateway wont release something which needs another game (they said it doesn't need additional hardware)

the timing has more to do with the release of sky3ds....
