Hacking Wiiware problems

Hi forgive me if I'm being dump but
I modded my wii by following the October 23rd wii fix guide and everything works great

problem is when i try to install some (not all) wiiware i get the error -1017
I've heard i need to install custom IOS249

if i do will everything still be ok or will things stop working

OK so I've just realised that i have IOS249 installed
but I'm still getting this 1017 error any help this is doing my head in
