Hacking WiiFlow - an open source GUI USB-Loader

Hey guys, I've been gone from the modding scene for at least a year now, back then I had WiiFlow all working fine and dandy on my Wii. Now my brother's got his own Wii, and I'm trying to get it working on there. I'm having a little bit of trouble though, I tried using the old version of WiiFlow I had from way back when, and that's always telling me I need IOS 249 rev 9 or later whenever I try to start it up. When I try to use the latest version I could find (a nightly build), the loading screen comes up for a while before giving me an empty error message (The GUI error screen, just no actual message). Anyone know why this would be?

ya know, like the ones on wiflowwiki, purely to be used to start from preloader.

there is only fixed version, and it has like NO loading screen etc. :(

i use those to start my wii in wiiflow mode, that way my kid cant fuck up stuff from hbc etc xd
 
I think those priloader dols are made with complex forwarder tools - You can use DevKit-Pro & CustomiizeMii to enable that complex forwardrer option.
If you get the setup right you can forward to multiple dol location and use pictures as loading screen.

I have this setup but never tried to make a priloader file.
I might try to make one for you just tell me which theme you're using and wait for a PM :)

remember that new wiiflows have homebrew mode too so a best option is to move the potentially dangerous homebrew apps from "sd/apps" folder to somewhere else (especially if your kids like to click all the buttons they see ;))

I also just deleted my cache and went into my wiiflow ini to check up on things and I saw that I had "update cache" to yes..so is that supposed to be on?

EDIT 2: So i fixed the whole random game name error when i hovered over my games but the Monster Hunter G SET USB FAILED: -3 error still remains.

Sorry man, just tried it out and I can't replicate your error, maybe pass by the IRC channel and see what's going on.

Edit: Just realized I have MH3 Tri not G..Yea I didn't have my glasses on.. oh wait I did I'm just an idiot. I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy of MH G and see if I get the same error.

Thanks! Also I did a fresh install of R374 and Monster Hunter G started working again.....so...? Guessing this has something to do with R425 I assume?
Well hopefully Miigotu gets to see these issues and such and fix em.

Not that hard, replace the background picture (thats all there is) and recompile the forwarder...
 
With the problems with specific games [member='JSchloegel'], [member='BostonBC'], and [member='Hybrid -x1'] have been mentioning since the games do seem to work fine on certain earlier versions of WiiFlow I'm sure it would be useful for the developers to know which version started the problem. (Only if you had the time) Going through the different versions downloadable here and seeing which one starts the problem would be useful.

@[member='Hybrid -x1']: With the Monster Hunter G problem I was actually kinda curious which IOS base you were using with D2X v8. Since you mention it's put together in ModMii I almost wonder if the CIOS autoselect feature on the newer WiiFlow versions is trying to choose a CIOS of one base where you have a different one installed. I don't know about Monster Hunter G but Monster Hunter Tri does use WiiSpeak and may need a specific IOS base to use USB for that.
There's a lot of changes between r374 and r425 or the corresponding WiiFlow-mod version. It's a shame to be missing out on so many features and improvements if it were such a simple fix.

That was a little problem r425 still has with interpreting the Title database it downloads. Instead try using this. It will download and convert the title list into a format WiiFlow doesn't have problems interpreting. Save the "custom_titles.ini" file it makes in the folder /WiiFlow/Setting on your wii. It doesn't help fix any of the other database information like how many players, release date, etc, but at least it will give the correct titles until that bug can be worked out of the WiiFlow.

Edit: Actually, I think that version may have left an extra space at the beginning of every title. This one should be the fixed version: http://www.mediafire.com/?afcuy9ueurva1cd

Hey dude thanks a lot!! Also answer what ios v8 base I use..well that would be 249 d2x v8 final base 56.
Monster Hunter G worked before in the past with older Wiiflow versions (304-374) is what I've tested so far. Like I want to be on the lastest Wiiflow (official)
But I play Monster Hunter way to much that I can't possibly sacrifice MHG for a super cool updated Wiiflow.

yep thanks again but yeah I already had that same exact ios v8 package installed and still a no go.
I did manage to fix that name error (somehow) and it works now when displaying a games name however Monster Hunter G is still a no go.

I thought the MHG error was because I had my rip english patched but its not (seeing as it works on older wiiflow revs) then I thought I maybe it was all my jap/english patched
games that didn't work with R425...so I tested out Fatal Frame 4 english patched..and IT WORKED..so WTF?! -____-"""

WiiFlow R425 + Monster Hunter G= Set_usb_Failed: -3
WiiFlow R304-374 (only Revs I tested with MHG) + Monster Hunter G = IT PLAYES!!!! No USB FAIL etc

EDIT: Btw I also just tried my Monster Hunter 3 Tri (thinking that it was just a monster hunter game issue with R425) But the game worked when launched.
bahhh..this needs to get fixed!! I don't want to have anymore surprises like this one anymore. (can't play MHG until then) T_____________________T

There is something that's bothering me: I have the game Mario64 injected in zelda.iso that I added to DML along with Mario Kart 64, the Disc ID is D43J01 for mario64 and D44J01 for mario kart 64.
When I go to DML mode the title for mario kart is ok. However Mario 64's title is "Zelda no Densetsu: Toki... blablabla" :(
I tried to add the title to titles.txt and custom_titles.ini even to wiitdb.xml files (in settings folder) but still same problem.
Is there a way to make the correct title show.
Please don't tell me to rebuild the ISO and change the ID to something else...

ok forget about it it worked now I had duplicate entry in the ini file and I didn't rebuild the cache. Worked now :)

hey there Hybrid -x1just wanted to let u know I finally found a decent torrent with MonsterHunter G english patched it should b done by the time I get home so I can try to reproduce problem, I'm also going to find out the last rev compatible with the game, in case that r417a4 - 424 work with it and let [member='Mugotu'] know as well.

I've also been able to confirm that Kirby return to dreamland has stopped working, I'll backtrack on that as well, I'll b tight on time but I'd like to do it tonight if possible. According to [member='Davebaol'] the game has metafortress protection and I was advised to turn all video patches off. However, that has still not fixed the issue for me with an NTSC-U copy (If anyone else could give that Try and report back it would b splendid ^_^)

Miigotu has been workin on some really tight shit for WiiFlow which I hope he is able to commit soon, after that maybe he'll work on a couple of these game fixes b4 he goes on to add DML and a host of other things.
