My wii - PAL- was already running v2.1E.
I have cyclowiz v3.
Its available to go online at anytime.
Put SPM in.
Did the update.
Prayed.
Played for 2 hours.
Good game, not great, but decent.

Good luck all.

I have the same problem on a PAL Wii with a genuine Wiikey (set to be region free), I didn't patch the game. I've taken the system battery out and I'm going to leave the Wii unplugged for a few hours in the hope that "EU/EU/ENG/Setup/ScreenSave.html" is a setting (or tied to a setting) that may be reset. If not, I've learned an expensive lesson...

you never got back to us if this worked or not?

downloading now, but am a bit scared to try it now.

Nintendo obviously gonna know if you tried to mod your wii, and will unlikely cover it under warranty..

for god's sake im in germany now where i bought it

i will give it back to the shop i bought it and tell them to give me a new one
they owe me a warranty of 2 years and the problem in the wii is now my fault
i was forced to do an update to play the game

just cut the wires to my modchip and get a new one next week

NTSC consoles updated with latest firmware prior to running the game WILL NOT be promted to update with the update on the disc.
PAL consoles updated with latest firmware prior to running the game WILL be promted to update with the update on the disc.

Both wiikey and cyclowiiz users have reported bricking on PAL machines. Users of both chips has also updated succesfully and can play the game.

Well, it asks for update on NTSC/J Consoles as well.

Would be nice if all you people could answer these questions (only PAL users, specially bricked system users):

Bricked Wii: YES/NO
Wiiconnect active: YES/NO
Opera browser downloaded: YES / NO
Firmware version: ?
Screensaver activated: YES / NO
Language on system: english, french, german, spanish, etc...

I think we could get the answer to all this if we gather some info.

BR and thanks.

I tried after one hour, no joy, so I'm leaving the battery out overnight as it apparently takes quite a few hours for the Wii to 'forget' settings (I'm going by posts related to the WiiConnect24/battery removal problem). I'll post back in the morning.

Not so sure... could yet be related to the opera browser.
Anyone out there -PAL user- hasn't bricked the system and never downloaded the OPERA BROWSER?

What we know for sure right now is that ThE ISSUE is not related with the screensaver option

why dont someone call up ninty and tell them bout the error and see what response they get?

*Just spoke to Zeus from maxconsole and hes confirmed the reason its not working....cos u dont have a cyclowiz...cos cyclowiz pwns all the other chips...obvs!!

Retrohead on http://wii.ds-scene.net/?act=viewtopic&s=wii&topic=2386 gave this guide for it working on PAL consoles.

"For all those paranoid about this update that is (i can confirm this) included on this disc then follow these simple steps:

1. turn on your wii without a game disc in
2. perform a system update and follow it until the system reboots
3. perform system updates until you get a message telling you there are no more updates available.
4. boot up your wii then inster the game disc
5. when you go into the disc channel, you will be asked to perform an update
6. make sure your internet connection is available then click OK to perform the update
7. once your wii reboots, you can play this awesome game!"

This is his guide and I take no credit for it.

P.S. What is the screensaver that you are talking about?

For all the PAL users that have got away with not bricking your wii. Also this goes for the NTSC users. I would take this as a warning. It wouldn't surprise me if nintendo decides to release a firmware update a week before on disc, then the online update a week later. Then release a wanted game for PAL regions and vice versa. The purpose would be to brick the wii if you tried updating on an incorrect region.

Just call up Nintendo and ask what to do, they won't just say "Dunno, your problem", even though you've got a drivechip + patched ISO.

Bricked Wii: YES
