Wiiu ftp server.... Thats the other and better one. You'll have to have/do a nand backup but it has the option to mount hdd or just nand and sd.

Yeah, just a precaution by the author. Better safe than sorry. It just has to see it on your sd card or it will create one so make sure you got enough space if it's not present.

Yeah I second FTP for changing icons and meta data. Used it to do so both in CBHC and Tiramisu, works a charm.
