Hello

I'm having a weird problem with a WII-U that I just fixed.

It's a 32GB WII-U jap with bricked nand.

I made a full rednand, I passed it in EUR, using "ifshax" and "minute".

The console works well but it reboots as soon as I insert a WII-u game.

If the game is already in the console, it works fine. The problem does not occur with a WII game or any other cd or dvd.

I check the log and there is nothing.

Thank you in advance for your help

I checked the setting and validated it. I still have the same problem. The crash occurs once the disc is inserted, when it checks the disc type. If it's a Wii-U disc the console reboots, if it's a Wii disc it works correctly.

That points to something pretty specific:

Region mismatch in sysmenu vs. drive auth

When the drive authenticates a disc, the region check happens at insert time. Because the NAND is EUR but the drive is JPN, the system may trip on disc certificate validation when hot-inserting.

If the disc is present on boot, the OS handles it in a slightly different path (mount at startup) where the mismatch doesn’t trigger.

SEEPROM / OTP mismatch

The Wii U stores region info both in NAND and SEEPROM. If the redNAND is patched to EUR but the SEEPROM still reports JPN, you can get odd behavior exactly like this.

Patched IOS-U / system modules

If you used “minute” to patch system titles, one of the region modules may not be fully in sync. That can cause a crash when ios-u receives an unexpected region flag.

Things you can try

Check SEEPROM region:
Dump it (wafel, otp2seeprom, etc.) and verify that it matches EUR. If it still says JPN, either patch it or use sysNAND emulation that doesn’t conflict.

Test with different regions of Wii U discs:
Does it only crash with EUR discs, or with JPN discs too? That will confirm if the mismatch is region-related.

Try disabling autoboot redNAND and run sysNAND (if it’s safe). Sometimes the crash only happens with redNAND builds.

Reinstall system titles for EUR region using NUSspli or equivalent, to ensure no mixed JPN/EUR modules are left.

The most likely cause is drive region vs. NAND region mismatch. Boot-time detection is tolerant, but hot-insertion runs the strict check and kills the process (leading to reboot).

Thank you very much for your reply. I have a better understanding of what I need to look for now. I extracted my seeprom.bin.
It gives me these values:

Is it possible to edit the seeprom.bin file? (with hex editor for example)

But it says EU. Looks right to me. NTSC is off. I have no idea, whether altering the bin file is a good idea.

I just tried with a Japanese game and the console reboots too.
I also tried changing the console from NTSC to PAL.
I don't really know what I should do anymore.
I don't like it but I don't think I'll ever solve this problem.
