Question for the Dev team. Is there any work that requires the skills of a web engineer with a couple decades of experience? I posted something about page caching the other day that seemed to help some people and would be more than happy to take a look at the HTML files and clean them up and optimize them or maybe put together an easier to use local server package using node.js and npm for package management and easy setup. I can imagine setting up WAMP/LAMP installs for individuals that are not part of engineering or devOps teams can be a little daunting. If you guys are interested shoot me a PM and let me know where I can be of assistance!

Any modification to the HTML is actually pretty likely to break stuff, given how unreliable the exploit is. In fact, that happened several times. However, helping people set up hosting environments would be useful.

Sounds good. Is there any documentation on the folder and file structure or the requirements for a server or are the HTML files in a public repository somewhere that I can view to get a feel for how to best lay everything out? My assumption is these are just static HTML files with no server side code running on the backend so the server architecture can be based on anything simple - is this correct? Thanks in advance.

For example, if I download the update for Splatoon and then I lock the DNS
quickly. Could I erase data from the system update that would have downloaded without end? It`s an idea , I dont´t know if I'll be talking nonsense.

Yes, everything is client side, so any hosting method should be fine. Even
Code:
python -m http.server
works.

you just can't because the game won't update if the console isn't updated, we can't do anything for now, i want to play splatoon online too.

Because telling people who can't work out how to use OpenDNS properly to purposely mess up their IOS' is a terrible idea.

Besides, there's always a slim chance that you might actually want to update in the future if another exploit is found and/or Wii U homebrew never takes off.

What is the status for people on 5.4.0? I had 5.3.2E until standby mode f***ed me hard and updated my WiiU for me. Is there any hope for the kernel exploit being ported to 5.4.0? Or is there absolutely no chance?

I would, but it's stuck on my other Wii U as an eShop download ;; poked at the files some, still pretty easy to mod

Please tell me they still use text files as configuration files. (They did on last two games)

I was able to change the gravity settings in Pikmin 2 thanks to the txt files.

Well so I opened up my Wii U browser yesterday, closed up all the tabs, cleaned the cookies, then opened up FIX94's host site for the homebrews, tried to load up Pong and another one I can't recall...

Same thing, it was either a froze up image or a black screen with white rectangles, nothing more.
I'm losing my nerve here, what am I doing wrong? XD

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
