Except that 5.3.4 was debunked as being dangerous though.
The strategy is valid, then. There are four scenarios:
  1. Update and later find out it was not safe
  2. Update and later find out is was safe
  3. Don't update and later find out it is not safe
  4. Don't update and later find out it is safe
Obviously, the least risky approach is 3 or 4. Not sure why you think otherwise.

F**k my life, I knew I was wrong to have any hope :(

Then why did you say around E3? Isn't that kinda of getting our hopes up only to have them crushed? You know what? I might just screw it all, give up on ever seeing Wii U hacks in 2015 and update the console to 5.4.0.
Please, the only reason it's taken this long is that Marionumber1's in school working on finals stuff. We already have control of a Webkit bug to build a ROP chain from, and the kernel exploit will not change between 5.3.2 and 5.4.0, once MN1's done things are trivial. Hykem's also gotten a VM almost perfect to test more bugs with, along with us having a DevKit to debug. All we need is one Webkit bug working and we can easily use exception handlers to make more.
Also, sorry to ruin your fantasy that we can spend 40 hours a week on all this. Didn't forsee that it might be a good idea to stockpile and possibly even get emuNAND before releasing anything.

I never said you had 40 hours/week to work on this, I just remembered you mentioning E3 is all, and with 5.4.0 being out, that only delays it further, I think? I'll just shut my mouth now.

If you guys aren't sure, then don't announce prematurely. It only gets hopes up, which is bad.
The story doesn't seem to change at all for those on 5.3.2. The only thing that is new is those that remain on that firmware can't access the eshop or play online... and what's wrong with hope?

Okay, you have two options. Either we'll inform you of our estimates about release dates and you won't get mad if they don't turn out to much reality, or you won't get updates at all. You cannot have it both ways. And this goes for everyone on GBATemp, not just you specifically.

So update? Don't update? Will it mean I get homebrew access later?

Obviously take your time, no rush. I just need to know where I stand in terms of updates.

from the post made it seems they plan on going after 5.4 they said it patched the stuff they before but they didnt say 5.4 is hopeless.

if you read the post above, he said it's trivial finding new bugs. if you'd benefit from updating like playing online or something may as well go ahead.

I didn't really get that impression. I took it as "we're doing 5.3.2 and we'll do 5.40 after". I don't want to get it later if it means not updating.

<snip>

The devs on the 3DS boards get the same treatment, then when they do post updates, they're accused of showboating and dick measuring.

Drama!

Damn, if we don't update we miss out on experiencing Nintendo's stellar online infrastructure.

Solution: do not update both of your Wii U's

Will I be able to do exploit if I buy a Wii U in a month or two. I wonder if store bought wii u's will still be on low enough version to work. If not I understand. I am just asking Thanks. :)
