Is anything said here of any relevance to whatever "plan" is to be created?

Please don't set me up for disappointment. If it's going to be anything like that, I'll probably sell my Wii U.

Yes that post is correct. We are developing this for game modding (like Project M) and homebrew.

We will not be working on creating public cheat engine or warez loader.

Oh, game modding. Cool. So I can create my own mods and load them on the game?

Ya know, texture mods, map mods, game mechanic mods.

Looking forward to it! Hell, maybe a real exploit will come of it to allow more later on! Thanks for the info!

I thought saves couldn't be traded/transferred yet.
They can't but it would be easy enough to allow once we do have an exploit*. I assumed you were going off of huntereb's post in the timespan of after we get an exploit/homebrew loader.
EDIT: *easy enough to allow considering we have an entire library to use now

No, was not going off huntereb's post. I think save trading would be cool. I really appreciate all the hard work you guys are doing on this.
On a side question, is it safe to stay on 5.0?

Yes, if you turn off standby and thus the quick boot menu auto updates, and block the update servers, but it's even safer if you're still on 4.1.0 since you don't have to worry about that(though I don't know how many people still are). It's just 5.1.1 and 5.1.2 we're unsure about because 1) they patched the browser exploit and 2) they may have blocked a potential kernel/loader/IOSU exploit.

So I'm currently at the the point where I have to choose between updating and receiving my free game, or not updating. I feel like I could update and try to find another Webkit exploit as I would have more luck in that area then finding a Kernel exploit. What do you guys think? Thanks :)

kernel. stay on the kernel.

this is what i have in my notes about what comex said[1] about dumping the kernel:

OSConsoleWrite works for some addresses that are not normally accessible...
basically it was a straight read from the kernel; it took the pointer and read it without doing any check and printed to a log, you could get the log by some other way to do it.
so, i printed one byte at a time, checked the log and very slowly dumped whatever data from the kernel i wanted. but data, not text. no matter where i tried i could not get any text.
BAT registers for instruction and data are separate. Kernel is only mapped in an instruction BAT. cannot have any data in text. you can run in fine, but you can’t dump it...
well, that wasn’t enough though, eventually i was eventually able to find a way to write data and then i was able to do some DMA thing to dump the kernel.

You really want a cheap copout to win the game? I can see uses for stuff like unlocking everything but that can also be accomplished with saves. That's why it's called "cheating".

I really want cheats because yes, there are times when playing alone that I like to cheat to have fun messing around in game. Other instances, I use to love RPGs as a kid. I still love the stories and such, but now I found that I don't care for level grinding, and other time consuming things. So a quick cheat or two allows me to progress through the game at a decent pace while enjoying the story. I understand your reasoning for not allowing cheats, but personally I enjoy cheating for single player stuff. Or even local multiplayer with friends whom are on an equal level. While I enjoy cheating, I also like to use cheats for hacking games and finding beta stuff/unused content. I love digging in and finding stuff for myself, even if it's posted online sometimes. While I enjoy cheating for these purposes,I do agree that online cheating sucks and I never really do it with other players around. I wish there was a way to allow it for personal use and not online, but I totally get that something like that is probably next to impossible.

Then there's the matter of piracy. I already own a few Wii u games, but I would like to have a USB loader of sorts to put any owned games on there, for the convenience. Call me lazy, but there's something to be said about being able to kick back and turn on your console, and select a game from the comfort of your couch. I'm guessing there would be no easy way to enable this either for those of us who actually own our discs and content, without it enabling piracy that way as well?

We could potentially have a safety net with that....since the Wii U uses dynamic linking to do a lot of stuff, we might be able to have a memory patching system, but as soon as it detects that the current running program is trying to connect to the servers, it would disable it.
Same with the backups, you verify they're backups because they'd have verifiable save data (or something at least that requires you to have run the game before and then it would let you run it off a drive).
As for if that will actually happen, who knows, we don't even have access to do that in the first place right now, we should find an exploit now and worry about logistics later once we know more about how the system's put together.
EDIT: Sure, there'd be ways around it but it would make it way more difficult to do, which is the point.

Backup loading is actually impossible with a PPC kernel exploit, since IOSU controls the disc drive. But anyway, this thread has once again gotten derailed, this time into an argument about whether cheats and piracy will be allowed with the exploit. The fact of the matter is both groups of devs (Chadderz/MrBean and me/NWPlayer123/a few others) are against them. Maybe someone else will come up with a kernel exploit and freely release it, who knows? We should get back to this thread's purpose: exploring the console.

(As an aside, I'm really starting to think that Cafe OS hacking deserves its own section)

Sorry who decided that? Anything homemade is supposed to look that way? What the hell, have you guys looked through all the files and read them? I realize the SDK is from a legitimate developer doing legitimate development work so of course his work looks intentionally 'homemade' it's not a clean SDK, and the work he is doing is not all clean, search for files referencing xml files, look through the data in the folders in D:\cafe_sdk\data\mlc\ closely and try and work out what he is doing.

How is any of it completely normal, just the fact it's not clean from warioworld is one thing, second thing it's from Nintendo, third the coder has left plenty of work to look at. Work involving levels of the system a normal developer is not supposed to be able to go anywhere near.. and further than that he appears (one file is very commented as he tested different things as he went, it looks incomplete?) he was working on something involving an RVL disc that makes absolutely no sense to pass off as completely normal. Look at everything the guy was working on.

Ok, I can actually answer this. The SDK is clean (as far as the SDK is concerned) The tools are what's missing.
The RVL disc you are talking about are for developers making eshop games. Like prior gen ports. It's not really a disc but more of an emulator. And as far as "levels a normal dev has access to" all developers that aren't using unity have access to exactly what's in this SDK. Funny thing is I did read pretty much all of the files. I also noticed that this SDK states that when fireware is updated you change that in one of the files of the SDK but continue to use this SDK and that all updated versions of this sdk are the same just has that change in it.
Although this SDK being leak may not allow people to find an exploit to let others have homebrew, it will allow those that know what they are doing full access to their wii u. Enabling cheats, access to the filesystem, (to mod of course) full access to starbuck, and full control of your wii u. (providing you figure out how to make the bridge)
When using a full development SDK you get tons of xml and other files. They are all used for porting purposes.
You call to them to make certain functions happen. Like loading what would normally be a wii game without accessing the vwii. If I remember correctly there are xml files doing exactly that. For use on eshop prior gen ports. You have to remember that with the console manufacturer all tools appear homemade. Because the manufacturer made them. (or third party with their name being left out) They weren't designed that way for any other reason. They weren't "supposed" to be that way. They just are that way because they were made in house. It's a way for them to attempt to control leakage. When these programs can't be purchased by any old coder they tend to keep out unwanted coders. Also enabling them to sign all tools so they know who if anyone leaked the toolkit. Thus stifling hacking. But they had epic failure when they didn't move on from ppc coding.
And when you write in ppc and c++ it's just a matter of time before someone knocks down your walls.

Sorry to double post, but some serious strides have been made today.
First ever release of homebrewU may be just around the corner. (Yes, TeAm_FaTaL is making claims to have broken the wii u) I hope someone is ready to help writing loader because we just dumped a game with no added hardware.

Details? Come talk to us on #wiiudev on Efnet if you're actual serious.
