Hacking Wii spontaneously broke itself?

My Wii has been turned off for a few weeks now, turned off at the mains. I set it up again the other day and turned it on only to see "Now repairing... DO NOT TURN OFF POWER" on a black background. What the hell? It was working fine before and all of a sudden it's saying this? Anyway, I left it like that for hours and nothing changed. Any ideas what's going on?
