Hacking Wii Menu 4.2 Released

So I basically I need to install Preloader to stop the updates from the games and Run my games by Gecko...but what if I'm using USB LOADER GX (Sorry my brain is dead)
Just make sure cIOS never gets overwritten.

(The Gecko thing is for retail disc games and disc backups on modchipped Wiis.)

SUCCESS!

As I expected, the system menu for v4.2 only checks for the "HAXX" title for the HBC. I just installed v4.2, then installed my modified "LOVE" channel....and it works fine

so how about the other homebrew stuff like bootmii, dvdx, etc...?

still functional?
Stuff that doesn't work any more:
  • BootMii (both flavors)
  • DVDX (with the title ID "DVDX")
  • IOS222/223/249/250
  • HBC (with the title ID "HAXX")
  • Bannerbomb
  • Installing anything with the HackMii Installer, beta3 and earlier
They still failed, though; IOS202 (used by MPlayer CE, USB 2.0 homebrew) wasn't blocked.

So...It's possible to reinstall HBC? and lol the hell is the "love" CHannel

zektor changed the title of the Homebrew Channel from "HAXX" to "LOVE" to check if Nintendo just blacklisted "HAXX".

@marc_max

Thx man for dop-ios. It's pretty cool.
Can you confirm ios70 can properly be "trucha patched" I read somewhere ios70 is a bit different than the old ioses...

@zektor
properly something is wrong with the new sysmenu.wad... Maybe something went wrong with NUS downloader or something is different inside the new sysmenu...

Ive got it!
Use indiana PWNS, to downgrade IOS15 (it works on boot2v4)
Use the TBR again to patch the es_identify bug on IOS36
Then use wad manager with IOS36 to uninstall IOS249.

Then install a CIOS249.

I'm pretty sure this would work.

Sorry KiiNG, I'll be that damn noob in this situation...I was half-asleep this morning before work and blindly ok'd the update before realizing what I'd done. Is there any way for me to downgrade my Wii System Menu at this point (like back to 4.1 when HBC was fine) to re-install HBC? What's my best option at this point? Thanks in advance (and this is a crappy way for me to live and learn but...live and learn, I guess).

run LoadMii from either Smash Stack or Indiana Pwns, then see if you can run Wad Manager from IOS250 and reinstall the old IOS60 and your region's System Menu 4.1

Also, I think I'm gonna install a LoadMii channel to my Wii and keep it on the very last page just in case. I'll probably do the same thi g with the LOVE HBC. >_>

Perhaps. Correct version number for v4.2U is v486?

Sorry, I can't confirm anything right now

I just added IOS70 to the list to keep Dop-IOS updated.
The only way to know it is to find someone with BootMii and NUSD'd 4.2 without boot2v4 and a way to load homebrew.

Ok, before this, that author of hackmii were saying that boot2 cannot be overwritten. Now, nintendo comes out with an update for boot2. Is it possible to reverse engineer this update to get the old boot2 on newer systems?

And the massive tidal wave of new threads asking for help begins.. yet again. People should start changing their stickied guides to not update via Ninty to save us all the headache.

You know how many guides and threads I've read on this very forum, that all say, 'Oh yea, just update through nintendo and use blah blah to get your homebrew back'

No one ever corrected any of these posts either, leading people just finding them to believe all is well following them.

Really comments like that need to be deleted on site.

First of all guys, why would you download 4.2 since it contains no new features at all? WHY!?!

Here's what's written on the Nintendo Support Page:

Most Recent Update:

September 28, 2009

Wii Menu 4.2

Unauthorized Modifications
Because unauthorized channels or firmware may impair game play or the Wii console, updating to Wii Menu version 4.2 will check for and automatically remove such unauthorized files. In addition, there are some behind the scenes enhancements that do not affect any prominently-used features or menus but will improve system performance.

for me that's why...

Hmmm, I can try tomorrow... or maybe zektor can check it, he's one step ahead...

Ok, so the method to take that technically should work fine to update to v4.2 (should you want to):

1. Load DOP-IOSv8 and install IOS56, IOS57, IOS70 (trucha IOS70)
2. Load NUSD and download the system menu for your region (Mine is USA, so v481) and wad pack
3. Boot wad manager and install the system wad you created, and install the "Love" HBC
4. Reboot

You should now be in v4.2 and everything will still be functional. Only drawback is that you will be able to load the HBC and load apps, but you will have to cycle power when you exit an app. More the apps fault than the HBC, as all apps seem to look for the "HAXX" title to reload the HBC.

This method will NOT remove your cIOSes, bootmii on boot2, or your previous trucha'd IOSes (like IOS36)
