Homebrew Why won't mother (earthbound zero) roms work on nesDS?

I downloaded nesDS and put it in my R4 hoping that I would finally be able to play the original mother since my computer is too crappy to play nes roms :\
When I try loading mother, or any hacks of it, it lets me get to the part where I can chose a save slot. When I pick one, everything goes black but the music still plays. Why won't it work? D:
Are there any better NES emulators that work on R4?

AFAIK, if you save the game on a windows emulator and then copy/paste the save, it should work.
Haven't tried it myself, though.

Yes, that works. It's just the beginning of the game where you name your characters that doesn't work in nesDS.

Play the game in a computer emulator first, save at the first chance you get (the phone downstairs), and transfer both the rom and save on your flashcart.

Voila.

What the hell PC do you have?? I was running Nesticle on a 486 DX2 66mhz...and it ran NES roms fine 12 years ago!
