the number is the number of horizontal lines the image is made of... and since 16:9 format is most used nowadays: 1080p = a resolution of 1920 pixels times 1080 pixels.

2k and 4k are horizontal though. Which will be less misleading. (1920 is the constant for 1080p video content, not 1080)

The problem stems from the mis-matching of terminology. TVs originally didn't use pixels (and tube TVs still don't) they use scan lines, which are horizontal lines stacked on top of each other.

The confusion comes in with HD TVs which then switch over to computer terminology of pixels. For HD resolutions we count vertical pixels instead of horizontal lines. This is because digital signals are not displayed in horizontal lines as tube TVs and analog signals were... But rather rectangular images made of pixels.


Short and sweet of it: While both mean the same thing... when talking about computer monitors or HD TVs, the correct terminology for describing video resolution is in vertical pixels.

It's the same reason when you talk to an interior designer they may call a color salmon and you'd call it pink... In the broad sense both are right, but speaking from an industry standpoint 'salmon' would be the more correct.

ill be waiting for the 3DSXXXL it has a huge 12" screen that wouldn't fit in your pocket and a whole bunch of 3d porn loaded on it.

thats why I love the PSP(even the Go)

And I hate the Netbooks idk how people can see that tiny screen
and I dont use glasses nor have eyes problems just like BIG screens

I do think they have enough room to have made them at least slightly bigger but you wouldn't wanna sacrifice a lot of portability by going nuts with it. I like that the DS can close and protect it's screens where as the PSP can't.

They really didn't. Go to any Best Buy kiosk and you'll see that if they go any bigger, it won't fit in a lot of pockets (on women's clothing anyway)

The problem is it would cost more money...and increase the size of the 3DS. Sure there's a little more space for more screen but not much...

If it cost more, particularly with how much it already costs, people probably wouldn't buy it.

As time goes on, the technology will become cheaper, and thus, we'll get larger screens. That's why the Lite/XL progression is the way it is.

they're already bigger than the ds lite ones and everybody loves the awesomeness that is the ds lite

I also don't see why people want bigger screens currently.
As you said, it's bigger than the DS Lite, and that's the most popular DS revision.

Absolutely correct. A common misconception is that Nintendo have used a weaker or equal battery with the 3DS.
Infact, they've upgraded the battery, and the 3DS has roughly one third the battery life of the DSi XL.
I wonder how much more the battery life would drop with a larger screen...
