Hi.
I'm currently working on a Switch system menu translation to Polish. I want to publish it here on GBAtemp, except everyone thinks .szs files are illegal to share, but let me explain myself.
Thank you.
I'm currently working on a Switch system menu translation to Polish. I want to publish it here on GBAtemp, except everyone thinks .szs files are illegal to share, but let me explain myself.
- The text on the Switch is packed to .msbt files. These can be edited with Kuriimu and you can even make your own (if you're experienced enough). Therefore, the only copyrighted material inside these files can be the text which gets modified anyway.
- Then, the .msbt files are compressed into .szs for use on the Switch. If you want to use the .msbt files, you have to compress them yourself, which can be achieved with open source software.
- If you already have the .szs files, just put them in the right directory on your SD card and use any CFW that supports LayeredFS (all major CFWs have that feature).
- Dump the Switch encryption keys (can be done with Lockpick)
- Dump the home.nca and user.nca files (can be done in NXTheme Installer by holding L+R while dumping the whole menu)
- Use hactool to extract both files
- Use sarc_tool to extract the .szs files found in <extracted folder>/romfs/message/<language>/
- Apply the patch to the extracted .msbt files (there's 10 of them)
- Pack them back into .szs with Uwizard (or other software)
- Put in the right directory on the SD card
Thank you.
