As the title says. I don't understand all the hate. The Switch is a much better console then the Wii U, and there are going to be plenty of people that are planning to buy/already have a Switch that don't have a Wii U. For example, I've always wanted Mario Kart 8 but wasn't going to buy a Wii U just because of that. It makes sense that they're porting some of there more popular games to the Switch. At least in my opinion. If you already have the Wii U/original version of the game, you don't HAVE to buy it for the Switch.

Cause the Switch is severely underpowered compared to the Xbone/PS4.
    Face it, it's a fact.

Porting older Wii U titles to Switch is something that MS and Sony also did with their consoles.
    It's inevitable.

These ports are filling a drought of games, for people who bought a Wii U as well as a Switch are getting a complete drought.
I'd also rather see the Switch as its own console, not the Wii U 1.5

Edit: There's also the chance that these ports are going to be the Switch's version of their games. Games like Mario Kart might not get a Mario Kart 9 on the Switch which further screws over 'loyal' fans who bought a Wii U and Mario Kart 8.

As a Wii U owner, it's extremely frustrating to watch Nintendo do this because it feels like I wasted my money on an inferior version of the games. With the changes in Mario Kart 8 especially, it feels like I had an Early Access copy now. It also makes me really not want to buy a Switch there's nothing new worth spending $300+ on.

All in all, it's just a smack in the face for people that actually bought the Wii U.

Shovelware does come with every console though, support for the indie devs is needed :P

Think I just might sell Mario Kart 8 Deluxe before Mario Kart 9 is released because I have not been playing it as much as I expected. Playing the same games from a few years ago isn't much fun.

So releasing the same game would redeem themselves? Nintendo would get even more criticism as that game is a pile of shit due to the gimmicky controls.

Because lots of people missed Wii U games, and also technically the Wii U and switch aren't that far off. You want a new Mario Kart or a Smash Bros fine, but they're gonna be pretty similar to their Wii U counterparts, hence why so of us are defending the idea of enhancing existing games (aka supporting them overtime, pretty much like a minecraft or rocket league) rather than spending resource on brand new games.
Or if you really really want brand new games, sure get them but let us get ports too, you don't have to buy them after all and they aren't costing much resources to port. But I can guarantee you that a colorful world that already looks great isn't gonna look significantly better on Switch, so graphic-addicts won't be pleased anyway.

    Also:
Not to be mean, but they pretty much all do that, there's definitive or "enhanced" remake on every platform. That includes PC as well... and it's not even just with video games.
You didn't "waste" your money, or I could say I feel I wasted my money buying an older i7 a few years ago and now Intel is producing a new generation for the same price.

No one is saying not to port them but they should just be given a digital "WiiU VC" release instead of over-saturating the Switch's retail library as everything that exists for it.

When other companies remake PS3 games on the PS4 they also reduce the price. Nintendo likes to charge full price for Switch ports of Wii U games.

I'm kind of numbing to the Wii U porting to Switch, namely because the system is brand new, perhaps Nintendo pushing an emergency reboot button after Wii U's failure. So, struggling to get new IPs in, they go to the "deluxe" well. If they're still pulling this say next Spring, 2018, then it's a problem. Formative years of a console, they tend to be pretty rocky, see 3DS, Xbox One, in time Switch will get its hold firm, especially if/when Pokemon delivers a major game to them (Pokken doesn't count). My fear is that it could be another Wii U where developers will just give up, even though Switch is more promising, they will be pressured to develop for PS4 (with a shift towards Pro), and Xbox One X, and even PC, that little Nintendo could be seen as an afterthought. Thus they need to secure dedicated developing houses for them to keep their third party support alive, and they'll need to keep it up on the first party end. BOTW, Odyssey, Xenoblade, eventually Fire Emblem, what's next? Hopefully they can answer that.

Honestly? it makes sense to me. I'm disappointed that I'm effectively rebuying some of my games at full price, but being able to play them on the go literally makes it worth it. Nintendo has all of these awesome games for the Wii U that never sold because the console never sold; it makes no sense to simply throw them all away and let all that work go to waste.

I bought a Wii U, if ports come to the Switch that means my investment becomes more and more worthless. I did not buy a Switch for marginally better versions of games I already own.
I hate this kind of thinking. This only screws people over who bought a Wii U. If there are brand new games instead, you appease both people who are new to Nintendo and fans who bought the previous console.

I'm personally fine with ports as long as they aren't WiiU ports as I already own the good WiiU games. Any other port though I'm down for. Adds portability.

Maybe because they already paid themselves twice or so and still $50 but just a guess.

It's not like Nintendo invented the remaster trend btw.

I don't even have a switch, so it's pretty moot to me, but if it was a game I care about, I probably already bought it on Wii U, and I'm not gonna buy it again on switch unless it's got some massive improvements, so I probably would much rather they focus on new games, not ports.

That said, a lot of my PS4 games are really ports from last gen, so meh.
