Gaming Why is Sonic Boom so bad?

Sonic Boom is nowhere near as bad as Sonic 2006, I feel comfortable saying that. It's not a good game by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not a total abortion.

The fact that 2006 is an unplayable mess. The game is one big glitch disguised as a video game, there isn't a single mechanic in that game that works correctly. I could go on and on about why Sonic 2006 is terrible, but I prefer to just post this:



These aren't "rare" bugs and glitches, you encounter them naturally by just playing the game, you don't even have to try hard to trigger them. You won't encounter nearly as many problems of this caliber in Sonic Boom - it's just slightly more competently made which makes it enjoyable if you're 5 and bright colours distract you, making it a superior game.

That's not necessarily a good thing. Being accurate to the Japanese original means that certain jokes, items or scenes might be completely unfamiliar to the audience - they have to be adjusted in order to retain their sense. If, for instance, one of the characters says a Japanese proverb that the European audience has no way of knowing, the sense of the whole scene will be lost on them. A good translator will find an equivalent proverb in order to make the conversation flow properly. Accuracy is one thing, conveying a certain message successfully is another.

Lessee... a bunch of rejected interns from Imsomniac got together under a new dev house, partnered with sega to push their vision, and used the Crysis engine on the WiiU, which even Crytek itself said the console wasn't powerful enough to run it properly.

Not at all surprised that Sonic Boom did poorly. What I am surprised about is that Sega (and Sonic Team specifically) decided this was somehow a good idea to even do in the first place.

06 indeed was a big disappointment, it was supposed to be the next big chapter in the Adventure series. There was substantially more hype attached to the release, so its bombing was more spectacular.

Basically it kinda is like the Duke Nukem or ET in that circumstances made it worse than it already is too but that's sega's fault. Plus they oversaturate so much they never can improve

Once people take off the nostalgic goggles they can see that the games' are very flawed with very little to reward.

SA1:
+ Sonic stages are fun to play
+ Soundtrack is very good
- Stages are glitchy (you can fall through a wall and more)
- Other characters aren't really much fun at all to play as

SA2:
+ The intro stage is easily the best of the entire game
+ Sonic and Shadow stages are enjoyable
+ Theme song of the intro stage is more or less one of the few good ones
+ Tried to come up with an intriguing story for a Sonic game
- Bad? Everything else.

I mean come on, SA1 & SA2 are mediocre games when comparing it to Sonic Generations which is basically "Best of Sonic: The Video Game".

I feel precisely as part of the latter. People view it good because it was normally the first 3d sonic, or even the first, period. That's part of the 'FFVII effect' (patent pending) where it's normally the first you played and therefore it means more to you, even if it wasn't the best game, or even it was full of glitches. SA2 is so well loved because it was quirky. It had bad camera controls, and the glitches were everywhere, but it had good parts like the chao garden. I played hundreds of hours on that, getting all of the chaos Chao and getting every emblem. I think it was my first game that I completed 100% as well. It was by no means a great, groundbreaking game, but it was quirky and loveable, like that rabbit with one floppy ear.

-it also had a great soundtrack, which is important to me in a game. If it sounds good, then it's a better experience. Live and learn man, live and learn.

I will not gain any friends by saying this, but every 3D Sonic I've played so far is not good... And that includes Sonic's Adventure and Generations. I guess you could argue there are sort of good 3d Sonic games, but for a franchise as Sonic I think it's only fair to expect more from games.

About the glitches, they have been a serious problem in the franchise since the beggining. I see everyone talking how Sonic games are glitchy nowadays, but they always were. Don't get me wrong, the Mega Drive/Genesis Sonic games are awesome, but even then they were glitchy, and often had glitches that result in instant death. I mean look at this part of the Sonic 3 manual:

They tried to disguise it by saying it was a trap by Dr. Robotnik, but they're crearly talking about a bug that forces you to reset the game. This is simply unnacceptable, they were aware of this and released the game anyway.

Yuji Naka even admitted himself that Sonic games lacked fine-tuning and balancing in a 2001 interview:

Naka: Hmmm….. well, at Sega, as soon as we finished a game, it was kind of like "Alright, we're done! Now let's release it!" We would only spend a scant few weeks on balancing and fine-tuning. Later I looked back on it and really wished we had spent more time on that. Had we been more careful and thoughtful there, we might have made better games, I think.

1. It tries to get nostalgic feelings from vets and use it to its advantage
2. Sonic fans have been so disappointed so much that they will basically like anything that isn't a turdturd
3. The whole modern sonic parts that swap (like in unleashed , colors) are crap imo and are not enjoyable
4. It still uses a novelty ( classic sonic in 3d!!)
5.Feels short to me

The fact you have your opinion is your opinion and mine is nine. I think you are being overally pleased.

As for 4. I mean some fans say it has no gimmick when it does and its a selling feature (I'm not saying that's nescarily bad)

3 I have to say its opinions and I have played colors , unleashed and gens and hate thier gameplay as it sucks in my opinion although I have not tried LW

5. I do not count mods as if you include mods any game changes and it missions/achievements are boring in gens and with most games I do not include achievements in how long a game is as I'm not a 100%er

2. For what it's worth the only post SA2 3d games fans have particularly liked was colors and gens (although 4 is considered pretty good). Personally I like hero's,shadow the hedgehog, and the advanced games but I was going by what fans think.

I just do not like it. To me it feels bad because it feels awkward with the controls and they screwed the formula from games like say advance or Genesis games but to simply put it it is just not fun to me personally due to those reasons.
I mean it sucks in my opinion which is mine but everyone has thgier own opinions and mine is that gens sucks

But I do agree 06 had great potential if sega gave a flip but ultimately bad games are the results of companies like sega and konami not caring on thier games and hurting the devs just to make a quick buck while alienating fans and what makes it worse is when they do not learn from thier mistakes and keep doing them over and over again until they die from poor sales.

Agreed plus we need to realize that it was handled by a company that had no clue what they were doing. It really was Sega's fault for not giving a shit
