Is there any incentive to use EmuNAND other than to prevent bans? Should I still go for it if my Switch is already banned anyway?

Only other reason would be if your Swicth is on a low firmware, and you want to keep the possibility of cold boot in the future, if it ever comes out.

ipatched systems need to stay on 4.1.0 eMMC to use pegascape, but can have a emuMMC witn 8.1.0 to be able to play new games, etc.

For that you could also update with autoRCM to not burn fuses.
For that, it requires AutoRCM. And AutoRCM is not very noob-friendly. You can argue emuMMC is not friendly either but at least it does not "brick" the console". Also AutoRCM cannot be used on patched units while emuMMC is universally supported.

I think people use SYSNAND and EMUNAND wrong. Leave sysNAND on lowest firmware for what reason, cold boot? Who cares? Wouldn’t you want online (with genuine carts) with your friends AND offline with CFW?

That’s how I use it. 9.0 sysnand 256gb online. 8.1 Emunand 512gb offline

The other reason is that nereba and caffeine allow to untethered boot cfw without jig and without autorcm.

It's a game changer for me. Pure softmod. No additional tools are required.

No because emuMMC is designed for people to boot higher firmware versions. That is the entire reason it was developed during the 3DS era. The same principle applies in the Switch scene. The only difference is that the exploit can still be used on higher firmware versions. However patched units have no way of going online with sysMMC because if they update it, they lose access to CFW so their only alternative is to go online with emuMMC which, contradictory to misguided beliefs, is safe according to Switch developers.

I had Emunand on 3DS RXTools was the days. However. Emunand was required because the exploit was patched on higher firmwares, without Emunand on 3DS you wouldn’t have access to Boot firmwares higher than 9.2 (at the time).

I wasn’t referring to ipatched consoles. I was referring to the original launch consoles. This is around 5 million hackable consoles (probably even more). With the latest online sysnand is online for genuine and Emunand is for offline (NSP installs) etc. You install a corrupted NSP on sysnand you COULD have a bricked switch. Install it on Emunand, you just recreate your Emunand. But also, if you’re installing NSP’s on Emunand. How would you play online without potentially getting a ban? - you can’t.

This is how I use mine personally. Sysnand for online for multiplayer and Emunand offline with my modded content.

You either install the .NSP files on sysMMC or make a second emuMMC partition. Also you cannot generalize as being "patched" or "unpatched" as the combination of Deja Vu/Caffeine and emuMMC allow patched users to enjoy nearly everything unpatched users have been doing for months. There are also people who do want to buy used consoles because their conditions are questionable and others who go online in emuMMC without a ban (obviously they are not installing .NSP files).

Ok buddy.

You’re choice really. No need to defend how to use a switch. Use it as you wish. There are different ways to set it up and use it. Everyone knows non-patched consoles have the better flexibility and in this case. If you have an unpatched console like myself. This is the way I’d use it. This is the method I have been setting up for many people for at least the past 8-10 months now. - No one has complained. If anything, they say it’s so easy to use and to know the difference which mode they’re in so they don’t accidentally cause a potential ban on their console.

Curious, from your point of view, other than cold boot and the standard car and mouse games. What negative do you see in my method?

The negatives that I see is that you are needlessly burning fuses for relatively little to no payoff. Burning fuses inherently carries no advantages because there is zero evidence Nintendo has banned people for mismatched fuse counts. The only possible upside is because people do not want to boot emuMMC online. Now if Stock emuMMC weren't broken, this is where the conversation would end. But I can see where some people are coming from. On the opposite side, ask anyone in the ReSwitched Discord and nearly all (if not everyone) is using Atmosphere online 24/7 without a ban. Of course they aren't doing anything super shady like piracy or cheating but, at least from their data, booting CFW is not enough to warrant a ban (or just Atmosphere). Thereby booting emuMMC would basically carry the same risk.

At the end of the day, its just as you said, there is no way universal way to use the Switch. Since we already have an exploit that can never be patched, there is no right or wrong way to hack the console. Personally, I want full control of my console and that applies to fuses. Some people have thought it is partially illegal and while I think its bogus, we should have control over that much of our consoles.

I understand what you’re saying. But the average joe, isn’t going to care about burnt fuses. All they care about is. Do I press 1 button to get on my genuine switch? Instead of going to a Bootloader, and manually selecting, Yes. Do I just plug the dongle in and jig and modded SD card and I have access to 100’s of games? Yes.

Burnt fuses etc other than cold boot, which could be weeks months years a way. What other benefit do you have to downgrade a sysnand?

The “risks” you mention using atmosphere online 100% avoidable using SXOS sysnand solely for online and Emunand for offline. You have zero chance of a ban. Zero risk. That’s the main reason I do it the way I do. If I want to sell my switch in 2 years time, I know it won’t be banned. Cause we all know a banned switch goes from £££ to ££.

PS, I do know SXOS is ripped off from atmosphere, just with some paid for features (xci booting from external hdd as EG).

I do believe this is the best way IMHO

Wanting to use a clean system for online play is the main reason to use an emuNAND. If you don't care about online play, or if you are banned, then it comes down to a matter of personal preference and often isn't worth the trouble.

Some might argue an emuNAND is safer, but a sysNAND backup protects against just about any brick that an emuNAND would protect against.

Some might argue that it's useful in preventing fuses from being burnt, but AutoRCM suffices if that's your preference. Fuse-preservation in an attempt to someday get an untethered coldboot exploit in particular is also probably pointless on anything with a fuse count higher than 4 already.

I didn't know we could do that already! I've been using my jig and TegraRCM since I hacked my switch in 2018. What's the definitive guide to this?
