Why does Ps2 slim wormdrive spin and bounce laser?

This is the problem I'm having with my PS2 and I don't know why it is doing this. It has already been cleaned and all debris removed from all 3 places where the laser goes up and down. It was Regreased with white lithium grease. Now this.

what happens when you put a disc? Goes straight to the browser or red screens maybe?

No. It will read disks but this is what it does

the grinding noise you hear is the motor on the right, it does that if one haven't used the unit for a while, it should be gone after you play with it a bit. And if it doesn't and the laser assembly no longer moves up & down (can't get proper grip) because of it, then you have to replace it.

The laser reads and moves, but the arm on the laser module jumps because the worm drive keeps spinning. Why does the worm drive keep spinning like this. It did not do this before and neither does my other 79001.
