It's a search engine that when used helps contribute to planting trees and forests. It also works very well and doesn't filter out content like google does
I will definitely give it a look.
I don't actually trust that DuckDuckGo is any more trustworthy, just a smaller entity run by the same type of people.

I already use an Android phone most of the time anyway, so it seems kind of pointless to try escaping the beast within it's own environment.
I agree. It is kind of pointless on an unrooted phone.
Quoting all of you here for this
Why don't you all try startpage.com
It google results without all the tracking
Or searx.me for multi search engine support
I agree with you. Start page is a good choice. I have a friend that is super private and he swears by start page. Thank you for the searx.me tip, I'll look at it.
As much as I hate it, Google.
Lol I feel you when it comes to hating google. But they do have a super polished and well oiled product in google chrome and google search. It's almost impossible to avoid using it as I have done for several years now.

Why almost impossible?

You should try Brave browser. It's a browser based on Chrome, has built in adblock, runs better, and can even import all your Chrome stuff, including extensions!

Also, dear god, I love how it blocks autoplaying videos, it's a god send for news websites, including THIS VERY WEBSITE.

Opera ftw
I used opera several years ago, I actually kind of liked it. What is opera ftw?
Why almost impossible?
It's just that google has an over 90% share of the market when it comes to internet search and it comes pre installed on every android device. I think most people would just use what comes pre installed.

I just use Google for normal stuff, then for when I'm using things like Tor and/or other levels of deep/dark web I use DuckDuckGo (for surface stuff) and Disconnect/Torch (for dark), then some illegal stuff for deep.

That's interesting. I've used Tor too. Only thing is I've usually just used it for anonymity, I've never really tried to access the dark web. I guess that's a topic for another thread but how do you access onion sites and how do you find any to visit? There not as easy to find as normal websites. Is there like a list or directory or something?

My web browser is Firefox, and I use Google as a search engine (even though I am aware of all the anti-consumer practices they take part in).

Duck duck go as they are more privacy focused. I generally dislike Google and for that matter any company who makes people their products and source of revenue. So I use them as little as possible.
