The Turion is an older budget processor with 1 MB of L2 Cache compared to the i3's 3MB L3 cache.

While the clock speed of the Turion is faster (2.5 compared to 2.26), I think the i3 is the better one because of the newer and bigger cache, but don't quote me on that.

Turion X2 used to compete with Core 2 Duo (Performance)
Athlon II X2 used to compete with Pentium Dual Core (Budget)
Turion II X2 Ultra competes with the Core i3

also you cant compare clock speeds, they are 2 completely different architectures

Intel CPUs as a rule are ~30% stronger (handles more IPS) than equivolent AMD CPUs (part of the reason why Joe says you can't compare clock speeds).

The HP laptop with Core i3 is better than the Dell with the Turion II. I could make a comment about the latter being a Dell laptop, but I wont.
