At the moment I have an Xenon console with a BenQ drive, with 2.0.8955.0.
What I want to do is to be able to mod this one and then also be able to mod another console when this one breaks (I've gone through five stock xboxes now, because I kept buying original fats to replace them). I now have a Xbox Slim which I want to use online, but I want to be able to play backups on the fat I mentioned above.
From what I understand, one option is flashing. I would need to buy an CKi, 360 Pro and a power supply for the drive. This could be done to multiple xboxes at the same time (a big bonus for my big house). But all games need to be burned to expensive DL-DVD.
Another is ODDE, probably xkey. From what I understand, you still need all the same kit from flashing, but the xkey will let you use a hard drive (which is convenient and saves on DL-DVDs).
The final options involve soldering and such, which is beyond my abilities, and sounds expensive to do to multiple consoles in the house (I don't want a kit to mod consoles to sell, I just want enough so all the kids can play and so I can easily just mod another console when theirs breaks). So basically the final option is to send it into a mod shop, who will mod it and then post it back.
My head is spinning a little bit from trying to understand all of this. I've learned the Wii modding instructions well enough (with Wiihacks and GBATemp), but xbox 360 modding is completely new to me. Money is an issue, so I can't afford to spend $300 per console or anything. Was hoping to keep it down to under $150.
