Pretty much what the title says, I understand what emunand is and how to get it but what are the practical uses of having an emunand?

For the people who are telling me to look at the history and what it was and stuff, I didn't ask what it DID I asked what's the point of it now.

With the existence of A9LH, there isn't really any point anymore.

Before A9LH exists, if you brick your sysnand, the only way to unbrick is a hardmod, which is hard, costly and risky for most people.

Therefore you install your games, homebrews and CFW on the emunand. In case you mess everything up and brick it, you can just boot your sysnand and create another emunand.

The situation is quite the same in the Wii U scene, where no equivalent of A9LH exists yet and people create Rednand for safety measures.

How does A9LH help you recover from a brick?

As somebody who bricked their 3DS sysNAND while 3500 kilometres away from my NAND flashing equipment, PC and NAND backup file, I had the profound realisation that emuNAND serves as an extra layer of protection on top of your sysNAND.

It's basically just an accessable 9.2 backup now.

You can save the space though and not have it at all.

Eh, you installed a9lh without knowing about its best function? You can boot Hourglass9 before the homemenu and backup/restore your NAND from there. Of course if you bricked and don't have a working nand backup beforehand, then you are screwed.

its useful for devs who want to test things but for the average user it really isn't something worth setting up. unless you're really paranoid about bricking your sysnand then just stay away from making an emunand honestly.

For people who are saying Emunand is useless and obsolete:

I totally agree that A9LH is the best way to hack now, this method used to be a lot longer and riskier (first downgrade to 9.2, then 2.1) and the tools had many bugs which also increased the chance of bricking. Many people were scared of that and stayed with menuhax+emunand for that reason. In short, emunand was the best way to go BEFORE a9lh. It existed for a reason. Devs didn't create it to be called useless.

I really hate threads like "what's the point/use of (insert anything here)?". Maybe it's useless now but it wasn't in the past. If you don't know, don't say anything. Several weeks ago when 11.3 wasn't out, people created threads like "what's the point of flashcarts like gateway/sky3ds?". Now 11.3 came out and you see why. And before fasthax/safehax came out too.

I don't own it myself so no argument here. But at least sky3ds is good now that there's no way to downgrade 11.3 yet, even with hardmod.

It's sapposed to act as a fallback plan, where if you have a rare sysnand brick that can't be fixed, but for whatever reason you can still chainload into a emunand through luma which makes your bricked 3ds less of a paperweight when paired with a9lh.

uh, yesterday i have asked if have emunand are cool for the brick and we said me yes

now i see its useless with a9lh

If i have emunand AND a9lh/hourglass9 (because you see, im paranoid with the brick)
This is an bonus for me?

If you have a softbrick on the sysnand and you can still chainload through a9lh with the brick you can eather restore a NAND backup with hourglass9 or if you lost the NAND backup you can Ctr transfer 9.2 with decrypt 9 and start all over.If neather work then you use the fallback plan or go for the hardmod.

A couple months later something better than A9LH comes out..... "Guy with no knowledge on the past: Whats the point of A9LH DUHH?",
We only got to A9LH cause our hacking scene increased rapidly, stop asking question that can be answered with research.
Its a eye sore on the forum that once had new 3DS Research popping up in every corner, stop wasting peoples time.

In short "Stop asking stupid questions"
Don't be offended but it generally is a stupid question that history can answer.

Technically safer and easier for your physical NAND.

Can simulate other systems and regions.

Can have a sandbox as to where you won't break the nand with actual use
