What's New With Wii U?

ModMii got Wii U support; Rosé Patcher (brings the TVii service back) released (still in beta tho); Aroma got a few updates; ISFShax got a few updates; you can now emulate Skylanders/Lego Dimensions figures; UTheme released, so now it's possible to install themes via the Wii U itself; Retroarch got Aroma support; a lot of PC games were ported to the Wii U (check games by The Latte Team and Source Macchiato); Wii U got radio support; now it's possible to take pictures with the Wii U camera and edit them; and much more! And about the devs, I don't think it changed much in the last year, it's still Maschell, SDIO, etc.

I'm about to hook up my Wii U, not sure when I had it set up last time... I heard about Aroma, never bothered, what is exclusive to it that I couldn't run on the older way of doing things (Tiramisu)? I downloaded games on my PC and then copied them to my Wii U HDD, is there something like freeshop / hshop, that just downloads directly to the system?

I only know about Pretendo, which is a very nice feature to have, but I rarely play online anyway (on any system).

No, you need to extract the folder to the SD Card. And then the app will automatically appear on the menu!

Almost everything is exclusive to Aroma now. When something new releases, it's usually Aroma only, and almost everything from Legacy/Tiramisu was ported to Aroma. And yes you can download games directly using NUSspli. And also, as you already have Tiramisu , it's extremely easy to install Aroma, because the Environment Loader is already installed, so you only need to move the Aroma folder to the SD Card and switch environments.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it... When reading up on things I'm pretty sure I use Haxchi (that name came up in my mind, but I figured that was for the NES mini). I do think that's what I'm on with the Wii U. I can't recall hardly anything from installing because you're just following a step by step guide not really knowing what you're doing (and certainly nothing you have to remember once you're done)... But I remember it required me downloading Brain Training (pretty sure, some free game on the European e-shop to do the exploit anyway).

Is there a way for me to check whatever CFW I'm using? other than that I can just follow a guide.

It' probably Haxchi or CBHC. If you have a "Haxchi" app on the apps screen, it's Haxchi, but if it's a "DONT TOUCH ME" app, it's CBHC. And about the tutorial, I recommend using wiiu.hacks.guide.

Ok, thanks, I'm just missing the power bricks to charge the controller and turn the system on... I got them about 300 feet away in storage, it's just filled with all the garbage I collected over the years. But I'm sure I'll get to it tomorrow. I'm renting space to keep all the games and consoles I never play, that's not a very bright idea when you think about it. 🤪

Pro tip: as long as you have an adaptor or USB cable with the corresponding port for Wii U GamePad, you can use any "dumb" 5V USB charger and it will charge just fine. A bit more compact and portable this way.

That's probably a sign that you should pare down your retail collection and look into ways of running your games off of modern mass storage. Basically everything from PS2 onwards supports booting games from mass storage. (Even if the GameCube/Wii has no official means with which to do so)
