Sorry to bump

I'm using 205.166.076.187 as my dns but it won't let me play online

Do you guys know if there is a way to block updates and still play online these days? :(

Since Tubehax dns doesn't return and all...

Reactions: I pwned U!
btw, @vinipeix, ccproxy or a similar proxy app may be the best measure to block updates if ur router doesn't allow the blocking of websites. plus, u won't have to worry about a dns going down. if ur computer is off or not online, u won't be able to connect to the internet on the wii-u, so u don't have to worry about issues with the proxy.

Sweet! Thanks a lot!:D

In the current patch every Wii U owner has acces to a very easy exploit that allows them to basically do everything from homebrew to pirating.

Where is the update that patches the new found exploits? Where are the counter measures? Is this exploit that hard to fix? It seems like Nintendo doesn't care about the Wii U... people aren't even surprised that Nintendo isn't doing anything. It feels like Nintendo is completely dropping the ball lately... on everything.

Is anyone expecting Nintendo to fight against this exploit?

Nintendo is going to release their new console. The Wii U isn't a sale wonder. What do you think... will people buy more Wii U if they know it could be hacked...?
You bet!

Talking about exploit web entries for 3ds, Wii and Wii U, I wonder why an exploit has never been found for PS3 and PS4 using the same method (even userspace)?
I realize that Sony is taking security very seriously but aren't browsers in general vulnerable (even IE/Mozilla/opera...) ? I see each time a new exploit is found and patched in windows/anti-viruses but it seems that doesn't work for PS3/4?

What about the 3DS? 10.7 exploits never got patched

I stand corrected - I didn't realize I was out of the loop on this one, haha.

I suppose nintendo is putting all their resources into forward momentum, then. When the 3DS was first getting exploited, I do think it was getting patched in a relatively timely matter, right?

If that's the case, It'd only make sense that current efforts are going to be more worthwhile than dumping resources into current exploits - talking about the NX of course.

Yeah, I do think it would have sold as well, actually. It was selling just fine before any mods came along for Wii.

It's funny reading comments in the topic like "hackers don't even amount to 1%" and then "I bought three to mod" lol. On the one hand, hackers don't want companies to blame piracy for lower software sales but then they want them to be happy it will move hardware in some substantial way.

The 1% is just BS people make up to make themselves feel better about themselves. It's basic human psyche, when you do something wrong you want to justify it by saying to yourself that your actions are hurting no one.

The fact is piracy effects software sales, and it also effects hardware sales.

Will people be likely to buy a system when they can get games for free, hell yeah. Does early system hacking create a stronger userbase in the long run, hell, yeah. Does Nintendo, Sony, MS, know this, hell yeah.

You sacrifice game sales, for hardware sales. If your system is already doing well, and you have strong third party support, then you to want block hackers at all costs to keep that royalty cheque flowing, but if your system is selling like garbage, then you wanna leak your own master key and move that hardware ;)

Do you guys not realize that 99% of the people that own a Wii U don't care about a kernel exploit. I would guess that maybe 10% of users know about it, but would never do it because of what is involved.
I disagree, anyone who I know that has a Wii U was waiting for the hack.

But how screwed am I? I can't use Tubehax because it kills the internet access completely on my wiiu, I can't block the urls because my router supposedly does it but I can access eshop just dandy, if I chance any DNS settings I am without internet, have tried all possible solutions and the outcome is the same, and I NEED internet access on my wiiu, since my computer died and have no money for a new one. Typed this from my trusty WII U.
Or just disconnect the console.

Good call, thanks. To bad I can't download my Humble Bundles with it. Oh well! Might wait for a Nintendo update and see if they fix it this week or not.
I think the DNS goes into the console better than the WiFi, right? How would it affect steam?

He means the ninty humble bundle, to be honest I'll enjoy the hack until the next update there arent many wii u games that interest me.

update my router isnt blocking shit, just updated my 3ds emunand without touching anything router wise.

Well, a big reason that nobody nowadays has found an exploit in the PS3's webkit is because the private keys got leaked ages back. Exploits are irrelevant when you've got the credentials to simply order the system to do what you want.

PS4? That's a different question. Maybe other attack vectors have had better results so far?

also calling that at some point, somewhere down the line, somebody's going to use a homebrew exploit for an actual malicious attack on unsuspecting end users (think wild world, but on your actual console) and people are gonna get hysterical and companies are also scared of lawsuits if that happens
