i haven't really done any mods to my way lately and i need a couple of people to make some recommendations. i'm going to install bootmii, and then do the steps to upgrade to 4.0, but then what else should/must i do?

i've got a modchip, and at the moment i haven't got any problems with backups, so i'm not sure if i should install preloader, softmii, starpatch (so many things since i last took note), or anything else that you'd recommend. i don't need guides or anything, just some recommendations.

appreciate the time.

EDIT: oh and last thing, does the ios60 installer/patch for when you're on 4.0 let you run trucha signed games from the disc channel (or does softmii or something let you do that?)? because at the moment i've got a couple of games that i've modified and trucha signed and require me to go through gecko or else i get an error, which i'd rather run through the disc channel.

Softmii is more of a method of installing existng packs than a unique addtion to your wii. You can safely ignore it if you are already set up for backup loading.

Bootmii installed to boot2 if possible.

Startpatch after you update to 4.0 if you do want any system menu hacks like moving the disc channel or blocking disc update checks or something.

Preloader instead of startpatch if you can only do an IOS install of bootmii, otherwise not really needed.

Softmii stuff not really needed since you already have a modchip so CIOSCORP won't really do anything for you. Only thing that you MIGHT want is the softmii tweak toy if you do want any custom system menu themes or something, though I think you can also use mymenufy or something (forget what it's actually called) to do that as well.

And make sure you get some cIOS installed before upgrading to 4.0 if you haven't already.

If you have an extra external HDD or something sitting around with some free space you can get a usb loader for your games using that. (Needs cIOS rev 9 or above).

It depends on what you want to do with your wii. I suggest to install minimal thing you need : hbc, bootmii, dvdx, cios and via hbc usb and/or iso loader + homebrew that you need.

I don't like cioscorp things, and i'm still with my 3.2 since i don't need SD card storage.

trucha signed games work perfectly through a backup channel, but give the "an error has occurred" message when played through the disc channel. is there a certain patch to allow that?

Not that I know much about Wii hacking, but cIOSCORP typically allows for illegal games to be played through the disc channel.

I don't really know what it does but i don't like it. It changes too much thing in your Wii IOS, i'd prefer lose 20 seconds to load game from any good launcher.
