So i'm trying to find out why my new 3DS XL isn't reading game cards. The D-pad works and the pins within the cartridge reader look fine. I've used a dust can on the cartridge reader slot. Decided to open it up to give it a thorough look around.
While doing so, I noticed that the main motherboard and cartridge reader daughterboard have some gold contacts that meet when seated into the device housing. On the main motherboard, there is a small piece of foam that sits on a gold plate. The foam is a little mangled.
What is the purpose of this foam and gold plate? Is it possible that it may be preventing the 3DS and cartridge reader from communicating?
